Had a stray show up at my doorstep and she's a sweet lil dog, not sure what she is though. Jack Russel? Rat Terrier?

Looks part Jack Russel (more the coloring than anything else) & maybe part Miniature Pincher or Chihuahua.... :)

Her facial features look like my Min-Pin but the thin legs look more Chihuahua.

I take it she has found a new home with you...??

I dunno, maybe, have had her for going on close to a month now. Walked her all around the neighborhood asking if anyone knew who she belonged to, put up flyers, put an ad on craigslist, had the HOA send out a community wide e-mail and still no one has claimed her. Figure I'll try and find time to run her by a vet and see if she's micro-chipped before I call her mine.

Congratulations on the new dog....... what's her name?

She looks like a very smart dog.......

I know what you're going through.... scared to love her because she obviously came from another home. We went through the same thing, even though ours was in a shelter. We've had him over a year now and I think of his previous owners and how much they must miss him, almost every day.

If I had to guess she is Jack Russel / Rat Terrier Mix. Definitely has Rat Terrier

Thats exactly how I feel! I've been calling her Charlie and she seems to like it, she is smart too. She knows basic commands, plays with my son, and best of all doesn't mind taking a bath! Wish I could say the same of my other dog!

 I had a Jack Russell, loyal dog but a little on the nuts side. I still miss her, she's been gone for almost 3 years.

Big thumbs up for taking care of her.

My sister has had several Jack Russels. They are VERY smart, and very energetic, and require a lot of time for play and mental stimulation or they do get weird and start tearing things up. My understanding is that they were bred to hunt small creatures (as were chihuahuas) and have a natural instinct to hunt and kill small things and that energy needs an outlet. They are territorial and very loving and loyal to their "master".

As for the dog "just showing up": I live in a small out-of-the-way enclave with a single access road and a dead-end. We find strange animals around here all the time. Townies come out here to dump them because it's easier than taking them to the shelter. Everybody has at least one "found" dog or cat. I had one dumped cat for 8 years before he disappeared (probably coyote food), and now have another one that appeared from nowhere three years ago. Wonderful animals that someone just didn't want anymore. Good for you for taking the dg in.

Good looking dog. Here is my Jack mix that we picked up at the shelter almost a year ago

It was a real challenge to get him completely house broken due to his anxiety, but he has finally came around.
