2006 sierra 2500hd has tow package (button on the shifter)but no brake controler in the cab someone told me i just need to plug one in, can someone help me with this and which is the best and cheapest way? Thanks Dave

Just because there is button on shifter doesn't mean tow package. All the trucks have those "tow/haul" mode buttons. But being a 2500hd it probably does have the towing package and right under the dash there should be a pigtail for a trailer brake controller that will automatically hook in with your connector in the rear.

Your best bet would likely be a camper store, some might stock the harness that will plug into the junction box by the brake pedal and plug directly into a brake controller, no splicing. They'll also have the controller. Dealer won't sell them and parts stores will likely have crappy ones.

No, best bet to order a Prodigy P2 online. Any store will either sell you an almost worthless controller or charge much more for an inertia based on.

P2 for $100 and find the GM specific plug and play adapter for about $15.

Etrailer is a great site, but not always the cheapest. Free shipping if you spend $150, say by adding a ball and ball mount or pins, etc.

Etrailer P2 and PnP adapter

What do you want to pull? Maybe you don't even need one.

If you have a trailer with electric brakes, please get a brake controller. The truck was designed to stop its own weight (GVWR) plus about 2000 pounds for light trailers. It is not designed to stop its weight plus 7000 pounds.
