How far is safe to bore an L31 before you need to get oversize pistons? I've heard .040, but would like some confirmation. Thanks

You can go to .60 over but the walls will be pretty thin..040 over 358 would be good.Youll need oversize pistons for anything over bore.

If you bore it .040 over, you will need .040 over pistons.

I've been told that you can just use oversize rings to a certain point. I know in classic Pontiacs you can go .040 and just use oversize rings.

You can knurl the pistons and get up to .010-.020. Anything beyond that and the pistons will be slapping all over the place.
