Yep. I traded a 95 GMCw 5 speed foran 03 Dodge Dually 6speed for an 08 GMC Auto. I DO miss the manual.

Nope, never cared for sticks. A lot of effort for nothing. My knee loves modern automatics. They run circles around manuals!

So basically you have knee problems and it hurts you to drive them. You have never felt the pleasure of operating a manual well and learning to drive one well. It feels really great driving one and making those perfect shifts for better power or to save gas on depending on how you want to drive . The only automatics that run circles around manuals are people that cant drive manuals or really expensive cars but whats the point in having a sports car if you are just pushing in pedal . I assume you would want a trucks controls to be hooked up to a comp and you just put it in where you want to go because that is the easy thing to do or maybe even a xbox controller in the future you would be more happy with then you just have to use your fingers . I love manuals becuase of the feeling I get when i drive them I dont care if they are not as good . I just love the style of them .

sadly i dont think there is a big enough market for them to blackz71 . I dont really know any people that know how to drive them anymore .

Whatever floats your boat buddy, but you are getting a little sarcastic in my view. You don't know me so watch it! Have you ever driven in Boston traffic at commuter time? I doubt it! After 200 shifts up and down we'll see how much you enjoy your manly shifting! The only thing I want automatic is the transmission. Point A to B is for train people!

I really didn't see a need for a stick shift on my truck, drove an 98 ford ranger with the five speed, it was alright but I wouldprefer auto on my full size lead sled lol. And yes, I will keep my stick on my sports car. Those were def meant for stick not auto.

lol @ I dont know you so watch it . So you live in Boston that sucks driving anything in boston would suck or any big city . If i live in a big city I would rarely drive for the pleasure if just being behind the wheel and driving . Drove a f350 duely in Vancouver manual was a pain in the ass but for a smaller truck like a 1500 or f150 there nice I think . Ive driven my little 05 silverado manual drive in rush hour its a pain but its not that bad . Can never really let the clutch all the way out is kinda annoying with stop go stop go but then again I choosed not to live in a big city so i can enjoy driving country roads and taking dirt bikes out .

Ive driven a friends dodge 2011 hemie but just did not feel fun for me to drive . lots of power and goes fast just felt to me like i was just siting there and doing nonthing all that power felt like if i was siting on a couch playing a vid game did not really feel connected to it .

I definitely see the need for a manual tranny if you are hauling heavy loads and need more control over shift pts. And that's the whole pt of a manual especially on a sports car. I want to feel the vehicle gripping the road on that turn... That's just me. Although I wouldn't mine an SMG paddle shift transmission...

To alot of towing with my boss old company truck its a manual and down shifting on hills and before hills is nice or knowing that the truck will need more power and instead of it up shifting and then down right away is nice . Because you can control every shift point and I love it . I also feel like i drive better because I am more aware what i am doing and dont have to look at the speedo all the time because of the gear i am in i know the speed i am at .

smg paddle shifts are not bad but i guess I just like to "feel like a man" as some people call it . I like the feeling of a clutch .

Well, I have never had an automatic transmission vehicle until 2008, and I am 73 years old. In '08, I bought my first automatic, a Lexus ISF, it is only available with a very good 8 speed and paddle shifters. My last truck was an "06 GMC with a 4.3 and a five speed. Anyway I mostly drive the truck, but also share it with my wife. She has a Lexus too, an '08 ES350. I needed her to follow me up in the truck last August when I was going to get headers installed on the F. She had a hellova time driving it. She stalled it a light with a right turn, and couldn't get it going again. I came back started it up and she finally was able to get moving. Note - I won't let her drive my F! After I had left off the car, when I got back in the truck I told her we needed a truck she could drive. A week later we had an '11 Silverado with the 4.8 and a 4 speed auto. I didn't want the AFM in the 5.3, so no 6 speed. The 6.2 is not available in the regular cab; we have a regular cab, long bed. I also didn't want the 4.3 again, so the 4.8 was the only choice. It's really not a bad engine, much better, IMHO than the 4.3. Though I wish it came with a 6 speed transmission.

Now that both my car and the truck are autos, do I miss shifting - YOU BET I DO!!!!!!!! When I drive an automatic, I left foot brake. But, yep I wish both the F and the truck were sticks.

Modern automatics run circles around manuals all the time. An automatic, even a crappy one will shift faster than you, simply because power delivery never stops. Especially noticeable on a turbo diesel where boost will fall off between shifts. That's a fact so don't even bother debating it. I've owned manual transmission trucks and I never would again, they are absolutely joyless to drive. Long clutch, long shifter throws, etc. Now in a car with a decently slick tranny, I would take a manual over an automatic regardless of advantages because it's actually a fun application. I've driven manuals of every brand pickup and some are better than others but none are good.

With the transmissions available now, I'd never ever pick a manual for towing. A Duramax, Powerstroke or Cummins all have excellent automatics and with the tech behind them, they will destroy any manual equipped truck. As for "knowing speed", if you have to constantly look at the speedo to be sure you're good, get better at driving or know your vehicle better.

My commuter car is a stick. Wish my truck was.

Driven a stick in 'rush hour' traffic for years. Bad knee and all. Only time it was a PITA was when my back went out. That was a bit tricky. So I drove the truck for awhile :ughdance:

    • Just did an injector/HPFP replacement on Pepper at 192,400 miles; close enough to 200K, RIGHT? (If 200K is considered life end and to me it isn't). But hey, to each his own.    Have never run a catch can on this vehicle. Back side of every valve looked like a new valve spray painted semigloss black. Port walls looked 'neat' (all a normal result of passive EGR via VVT) Zero build up even in AFM cylinders. Just color. It uses no measurable oil and never has.    At 155,000 I put her on E-85 and a borescope of the cylinders at plug change showed very clean pistons and valve faces. The replaced injector tips looked new. (It was the pump piston seal that was leaking). Oh well, have six good backups.    Still gets 28 mpg on gas (highway average) and over 20 (highway) on alky. UOA's look good and runs as good now as it did when I bought it. Better in fact.    What improvement would a Catch Can provide this motor?     And given all this I expect that IF I installed one I'd see some water/gas/oil vapor accumulation. Byproducts of normal combustion.   Having said that, IF my motor used an appreciable amount of oil I'd consider it a useful 'crutch' until I had the situation corrected OR if bore polished, until I junked it or rebuilt it to stave off repeated plug fouling.    I'm not telling you what I THINK. But what its DONE.
    • Love the look. I'm a SCSB lover myself.    Two items. 1.) A spacer changes scrub radius but this also changes when we use wheels of different offsets. A little isn't a big deal. 2.) Steel wheels, alloy wheels all have different thickness. Same effect on the stud and lug nut as a spacer. When hub centric the wheel isn't supported by the stud. It's supported by the hub. The stud just keeps it all together.
    • I had a evap sol go bad a couple weeks ago. . I replaced it.  While watching live data at the time I saw I had some cylinder 1 misfires. No MIL but on live data I could see ~50 at startup and about 70 more after an hour a drive all on cyl 1.  I also noticed that the LTFT were -5% to -15% always.  And that bank 2 is always -3% richer than bank 1. Even across all driving modes, city, highway, etc it’s always 3% richer than bank 1. So I start with the misfire. Swapped coil, plug, and plug wires from 1 to 3. No follow. I got an Injector reseal kit, pulled the D/s injector rail, swapped #1 and #3 injectors, resealed them, reinstalled and retested.  The misfire followed to 3. So I ordered and replaced all 8 injectors, spark plugs, and plug wires. Also replaced the 1 time use fuel pipes under the intake manifold.  Injectors that were in the truck since new were  Part # 12668390.  I replaced them with # 12742701 Got from RockAuto. Pretty certain they’re genuine and the correct ones. I called a friend at a parts store who told me “the 12742701 were the correct superseded part # for the originals I was replacing”. So started truck after replacing all that and it’s running -15 - -30 LTFTs. I reset the fuel trims with GDS2 and drove it for a 60 miles trip each way. There have been no changes in the LTFTs.  I checked if the HPFP was leaking into the crankcase. I removed the pvc and watched the trims. No difference.  I checked the alcohol content and it was at 10%  I’m out of ideas here. Truck seems to run great. Just always rich on the fuel trims.  Anyone with any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.  I ran an injector balance test just for the heck of it and it came back this. I’m confused.  I have gds2 and some other diag tools if anyone knows of anything I should test next.
