How-To: Heated Seat Element Replacement GMT800.

I took a stab at removing my heated seat element today. My heated seat on the drivers side was faulty. I would hit the button to turn it on and the lights on the panel would light for just a sec or two and I would hear a click (relay probably) from under the dash and the lights would go out and no heated seat.

 

Step1. Kick on the garage furnace and let let the shop heat up. Its cold as shit in Michigan. (dont forget to adjust the thermostat or it will be 70* and you will get sweaty bawls)

 

Step2 Fire up garage stereo. I play Pandora radio through my 700w Sony surround sound receiver with 2 Polk Audio Wall mounted book shelf speakers and a Yamaha 12 powered sub. My neighbors hate me.

 

Ok, now down to business. You won't really need any tools for this repair, just those two bear paws you call hands. A flat blade screwdriver might be useful

 

Un-clip this C-channel plastic piece that runs across the bottom up the back rest.

Peel the seat cover up.

Looking up from the bottom I can see the burnt out element. You can stick your hand up there and pull put little bits of burnt material.

Now unhook the 2 wire harness connections. Looking from the front of the seat on the floor, You have to unhook this green connector. There are 2 wires running to it.

Slide your right hand down next to the console and run your left hand under the seat from the front. You can get 2 hands on it but I was able to un-clip it with one.

From the back on the bottom of the seat you need to unhook this gray clip. You can tilt the power seat bottom forward to make room to get in there.

Pop the wire out of its little retaining clip and give a tug at the little fur tree retainer and you can remove the element and harness from the seat.

Thats all for now kids. I have to order the new element from GMPartsDirect.com
