02 Burb heater problems, wife is not happy

I am praying that someone here has a clue as to what is going on here.

My 02 / 2500 Suburban will only produce heated air when the temp control is locked all the way to the right of the temp selector

here is what the control head looks like

this started doing this at the end of last winter so we paid it no mind until now

if you have the temp set at 78, it just blows cool air, it does not matter what vent.

the vent controls work fine, IF you want defrost, it moves the air and so on.

I took it to a shop who had it for 2.5 days and could not fix it

they installed an acuator motor(the one behind the glove box) and that didn't fix it.

they put in a new control head, and that didn't fix it.

they looked at calibrating the acuator motors with a computer, I never heard how that went

anyway, I don't know what else to do

they thought they had it fixed and called me, I think they just wanted it out of their hair.

they said no charge unless they fixed it, but I don't know how this is all going to work out.. At this point I have no intention of taking it back until I know for damn sure what's wrong. If I can get it fixed else where, I will then I will go back and try to settle something for their time

Another alternative is to get a set of official shop manuals and follow the troubleshooting steps. You also could try to get a used temperature control unit from a junkyard and try it. They are usually cheap used - around $ 30 or so.

good news.

I remembered the guy at the shop telling me something about the shops Snap On computer saying that the outside air temp sensor was saying it was 95 deg and on that day the high temp outside was around 40

they never looked into that BEFORE putting all of those parts on my truck.

well, we picked it up, (not fixed) we just had to have it back to get around.

over the Christmas break, on a hunch, I went to a parts store and bought a new outside air temp sensor and put it on myself

it started working correctly!!!

and guess how much the part was.......4.29

funny thing was the shops computer was trying to tell them what was wrong and they didn't listen, they just started throwing parts on it and boy was that an expensive way to go for them
