you should talk to the people that installed your "aftermarket starter" it not likely that anybody hear will know all about your "aftermarket starter" but if you have questions about your factory installed gadgets i'm sure someone here should be able to answer those questions for you

It's after market. But it shouldn't matter. Because the lights come on automatically upon starting it with the key

I thought this was "ask the expert" category, not "everyone gives their 2 cents without actually answering my question then getting sarcastic because that's even more helpful". What a waste of time.
Well when you ignored post #9, which actually answered your question but then you claimed "missed the point", you can expect two cents to start coming at you fast and furiously. actually, post #9 didn't answer my question. If you'd kindly refer to post #8 "It does the same with the remote start as it does with the key", which makes 9 a pointless reply and brings me to you sir...

Let's forget the "aftermarket starter" even though you obviously enjoy using the quotation marks to again emphasize your useless point since it's apparently the only punctuation you know how to use. Magic struck. My truck doesn't have a remote starter anymore, factory or aftermarket. When I start my truck with the key, the head lights come on automatically and instantly rather than engaging when the vehicle is shifted from park. Now.....go!

No, you cannot start your truck in the dark without the lights coming on automatically. Now, learn to park your truck facing a different direction and your problem is solved.

I am trying to figure this out because my headlights come on and flood my neighbors kitchen window every morning at 5am when I start my truck by command start for work. Starting it by remote then having to go out and flip the auto headlight dial off kind of defeats the purpose of the remote start.

the above statement is what you typed saying that your lights come on with the remote start (aftermarket starter)

GM headlights do not come on with a gm installed starter

I never thought of that. Except that I live in a condo and have an assigned parking stall along a wall and don't have room to back in. Thanks jack wagon.

I guess this guy

Yeah with my '07, only the running/parking lights come on when started with the remote. When you turn the key to "run", the headlights will come on.

and this guy

Even when it's dark out my headlights don't turn on with remote start. When I hit the door unlock they are set to come on with approach lighting. Then when I turn the key they come on in automatic mode.

are from Mars right?

DUDE! Forget the starter! It does it by key in ignition as well. Jesus christ read first.

I give up. Someone remove this thread or block any futher "expert" replies.

The only useful information you have provided is in your signature, indicating you never want to grow up. This is obviously the case as you have the intelligence of a small child suffering from a brain injury.

Read yer manual. Once you do you will realize that this function is normal and intended.

By default, the headlights are on at all times while the vehicle is running as part of the daytime running lamp safety feature. The light sensor functions simply to dim your interior lighting (dash lights, radio and clock lighting) when in outside low-light conditions.

I believe the DRL features can be changed with some manipulation of settings in the Driver Information Center. Again, refer to your manual.

If your vehicle had a factory remote start feature then the headlights would not activate on remote startup. This is what post #9 infers to you which you chose to ignore and why in previous replies you see the emphasis on "aftermarket starter".

Why is it so hard to understand that with a GM factory remote start, the headlights do not come on, but when started manually, they do. It's in the programming for the remote starter.

LMAO i was starting to think i was losing my mind

You want your low beams to act like DRLs. I've never heard of that as an option. You'd have to custom wire that.

I have a 2011 Sierra. Like the last GM vehicle I owned, it has a sensor that detects light and automatically turns on the headlights when it is dark enough. I can turn this off manually by switching the headlight dial from 'Auto' to 'off', but the dial cannot be left in the off position. When you start the vehicle, the headlights are always on automatically even if they were manually shut off the last time the vehicle was running. On the flip side, I drive an 07 Colorado at work. When you start it up, the parking lights come on but the headlights don't automatically engage until it is shifted in to drive.

I have browsed around online and looked at my owners manual. I see options for entry and exit lighting for when the doors are locked/unlocked but nothing about the headlights being on or off when until the vehicle is put in to drive.

If you start the truck with a key when it is dark out, the headlamps will come on. This is normal and the only way to disable this would be to disable the auto headlamps. The only lights that would come on in gear would be the DRLs (reduced power low beams) when it is bright outside. A GM remote start will only turn on the parking lamps when started, regardless of day or night, though when the doors are unlocked the lights will turn on if approach lighting is enabled. Aftermarket remote starts are trash, I don't trust them and they make the truck do annoying stuff like have the headlamps come on as you describe. The only way around this is to ditch the aftermarket unit, get the GM one and disable approach lighting.

When I remote start, I only get park lights. If I want to start the truck with a key, turn the headlight dial to off AND hold it while starting the truck. No lights.
