how about turning the knob to just the parking lights and see if that fixes your problem, It is not a spring loaded position like going from auto to off, so it should stay in place even when you turn off the vehicle.

When I remote start, I only get park lights. If I want to start the truck with a key, turn the headlight dial to off AND hold it while starting the truck. No lights.

That's what I've been doing since my truck was new in '07. Garage is dark, so lights always come on. That also keeps the daytime running lights off as well. I don't own stock in H11 bulbs ...

Have you tried parking with the parking brake on? I always use the parking brake, and it affects the lights on startup.

This is the deal folks. For the factory GM remote start system, it will light the parking lights when the vehicle is running via remote start. Because the original poster has an AFTERMARKET setup, the aftermarket remotestart and or alarm setup requires a module to interface with the computer system of the truck. The module does not work the same way as that of the factory GM remote start system. Because of this, the headlights come on when the truck is started with his aftermarket system. I had the same issue on my 07 when I installed a cliffard alarm & remote start system (had it professionally installed at a very repituble place that knows alarms) The clifford system would flash the headlights on and off every few seconds with them staying on the rest of the time ANYTIME the vehicle was running when using the remote start. I did not like that, no one likes ot have headlights flashing on and off every few seconds. I took it back to them, and they disabled the flash feature, however the headlights still stayed on steady. They told me on most vehicles it would flash the parking lights instead to indicate that the vehicle was running. They did some checking with Clifford and they were told that because of the way the module interfaces with the trucks computer and the way the trucks computer is set up, there was no way for them to be able to disable having the headlights come on when using the remote start system. If I had known this up front I would not have gone with clifford but would have gone with a factory unit instead. So, the point I am trying to make is that some or all aftermarket remote start systems will likely keep your headlights on for the GMT-900s and your SOL.

In addition, on the GMT-900s the parking brake will not kill the DRLs like it did on the 800s and 400s. The way to turn off the DRLs while driving is to turn the headlight knob all the way to left. But you have to do that every single time.

Now giving this some more thought, if you disable the DRLs so that you do not have DRLs under normal operation, by removing the fuses as some have pointed out, that may just be what you need in order to not have your headlights come on using your aftermarket remote start. But then you will not have any DRLs while driving.
