Audio system buzz; seems to be temp dependent

Hi all,

I have a 2007 NNBS Yukon. I've added the iPac Gateway and HD Tuner to the system, and did so several months ago. Both work awesome.

About 4 weeks ago, I took apart the dash looking for the reason why the HD signal was "digitizing," that is, making digital noise while tuned to an HD station. Turns out that I had routed the HD tuner unit itself in such a way behind the radio that there wasn't enough slack on the input wire, and it had come partially loose. Re-connected, put the dash back together and down the road I go.

In the past week I've noticed (I live in Michigan) that when the truck is fully warmed up, interior and all, there is a buzz that comes from the speakers (maybe just the driver's side...I haven't adjusted the fade yet) when either the radio is on, regardless of source, or when the radio is off and I activate a turn signal or the seatbelt warning chime goes off. The buzz doesn't change volume regardless of the volume of the stereo. No buzz in any condition until the truck is warmed up.

I took a long road trip up north yesterday, and when the truck was fully warmed, I had to deal with the damn buzz. If hit the top of the center stack above the radio but below the HVAC vents, the buzz would disappear until the suspension compressed, and then the buzz would come back and stay. Hitting the dash with the same strength and in the same spot would cure it again, but then it would come back. After about 500 miles of this dance, I pushed in on the center of the small lateral place trim piece that is connected to the center stack plastic surround and is right above where the DVD slot is at the top of the radio. Applying pressure to this point would kill the buzz, but then it would come back. Strange.

My thinking at this point is because of the location of where I pushed and struck the dash, that is might be related to the HD tuner unit, because that's where its located behind the dash. I'm going to leave shortly and get the truck warmed up and then take the dash apart to move the unit around, and see if this solves the problem.

In the meantime, anyone have problems like this, factoring the turn signal chime into it? It seems wierd to me that the buzz would appear anytime with the radio off, but as said above, it does.

SOLVED!

Warmed truck up. Took apart center stack of dash. The stock DVD radio in my truck has two blue harnesses and one beige harness that plugs into the back. The blue harness that is closer to the driver's side of the truck made noise when I moved the wires around. I moved the harnesses around and reseated the radio. So far so good.
