Adding Steering Wheel controls

I just received my ordered '03 2500HD CC this past Tuesday. It is an amazing truck. The only regret is that I didn't get the steering wheel audio controls. I've checked jpcustoms.com, but they don't have anything available for the '03s yet. Also, the '03 steering wheel controls are different. Now it isn't an add-on module, it's actually buttons in the steering wheel.

I really have 2 questions.

1) Can I buy a steering wheel from GM and any necessary wiring harness for the audio controls and install it on my truck.

2) If so, will it enable all the additional control (in the dash display) that I don't currently have. w/o the steering wheel controls, I only have odometer, 1 trip meter, and engine hours. There are many more with the controls.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Has this come out yet, I'm very interested in upgrading my 03 Silverado with the Steering Wheel Controls...

A few of us have researched this topic alot. Search for some of my posts on the light duty forum. Basically, you need to have the BCM reflashed, new wire in the steering column, steering wheel, possibly a cluster etc., etc.

I'm in the same boat and spent a fair amount of time trying to figure this all out. My dealer is willing to reflash the BCM, but there's way more to it than that. Also GM seems to think the cluster needs reflashed, the dealer can't do that.

All in all, I have decided (at least for now) that its not worth the time and expense. Too bad my dealer didn't know that the controls were not included with the Bose radio like he thought.

I've contacted Jason at jpcustoms a number of times. He says he's still working on it, but won't say much else. If he comes out with a kit I'd definitely buy it, but I'm not inclined to do it myself.
