Out of warranty..had it at dealer for repairs andit actually went dead on them recently.they quoted almost $200 for new battery and I declined figuring these batterys can't be worth $200 if they only last 3 years

Is the battery actually going dead? or is the truck just telling you the battery is low and turning the radio and all the other accessories off? I ask because there is an update for the computer for a known issue with the computers thinking the battery is dead when it isn't. Happened to mine, just needed a quick pcm update....

Me too! I went to Advance Auto parts all ready to buy a new battery and after checking it, they assured me my battery was fine. The 1st time, I had been working on the stereo but ran very little battery yet it died quickly. The 2nd time was at Discount tire getting a new TPMS and rotate. In that short time, my battery was dead again! This time I went to sears to buy a Diehard and again they checked it and it checked out fine. Is this normal? I do not want this to happen when I am out in the middle of nowhere. I was going to buy either diehard or Optima. My concern is do these trucks draw a lot from the battery when the ignition is on or what could cause this?

This exact thing happend to my 07 NBS Silverado at Discount Tire getting my tires changed /TPMS reset. That was on the OEM Warranty replacement battery, since the original died in a car wash. I got a jump went straight to the dealer and they were worthless, stating that the warranty replacement batteries are only covered for one year. I was at 16 months. I went to Autozonew and their equipment showed that it was toast, so i replaced it. I have also drained my battery in the parking lot just listening to the radio. I still think the battery plates are too small or bunched too tight in this battery which is leading to many premature failures in these trucks.

Did replacing it solve the problem? I was really thinking I was going to buy a Diehard, but with the reviews on the Duralast I think that is the way to go.

Actually I'll say this my battery was dead the other day... I should also say I hadn't started the truck in 4 months. Runs great now though!

I just had my battery (10 month old) replaced last month on my 2011 GMC Sierra at the dealer at no charge. The battery was almost completely dead after sitting in my driveway for ~5 days w/o driving. I was just barely able to get it start and I drove the truck around on several errands leaving running the whole time and I then drove it to Autozone to have them check the battery. AZ said the battery and charging system was working fine, but this did not give me a warm fuzzy feeling, since if everything was working then why did the battery go dead? I took it to the dealer and they determined the battery had a bad cell(s) and replaced it under warranty.

The take home message here is that you can't always trust the $100 battery testers these Auto Parts Stores use.
