shift solenoid

my 4l60e did this in my 04 sierra...only had 2nd and 3rd, could only manually shift.

It turned out to be my ignition switch...it was not supplying the correct voltage to the transmission solenoids.

It was a dealer fix costing around 360.00

if its just a little part that might cost about the same id rather go that route instead of replacing the whole transmission.though it remains if thats the problem...Dee's issue sounds relative to mine.only mine does have 1st in the morning when it was real cold after it warmed up in 30 seconds it lost it

There were not any other sympotms. CEL was lit and read codes for shift solenoids a and b. (Remember, mine is OBD2, but I do not remember the exact numbers for the codes.) Once or twice it was fine, maybe 2 times out of 40 key cylces did the switch operate correctly and supply the right voltage. The transmission wouldn't shift at all automatically. It would go from Park to Reverse, then drive would be gear 2, then 3, then it would stay in 3rd until i dropped it into second. I do not know if the first shift from R to D if I had first or not...if I had it to begin with, once I hit second I never was able to get first again...I almost got hit by a dump truck because starting off from a stop in 3rd doesnt happen too quickly.
