Bad Steering gear-truck reprogrammed

Recommended Posts

i had warranty work done to fix the bad steering gear. with that they have to reprogram the truck.

today i filled up and noticed my milage is AWEFUL!

usually when i would fill up the miles to empty would be 380-390

now it reads 324

also i only got 240 miles out of 21 gallons- used to get around 290-300

anyone with input ?

should i take it back to have them reprogram it again ?

thank ahead of time

Did they explain why it was re-programmed? Does it say anywhere on your copy why they did it? Don't see why they would have needed to...

Why would they have to reflash the pcm to change the steering gear? Does the GMT-900 have electric power steering?

Hydraulic. Only the hybrid runs electronic power steering.

It was likely reprogrammed for the OLM. As stated above , run a couple tanks through, it should average out. It is a calculation and is more accurate the more miles driven since reset.

The algorithm used to calculate the OLM has been changed to lower the mileage that it takes to come on . I wasn't refering to Re-setting the OLM.

Best thing to do with the fuel mileage calculator is to reset it every time you fill up. I tried my 09 for over a year without resetting anything. Stayed at 14.3 and never moved no matter how or where I drove. Calculation was never right from fill up to fill up either. I decided to reset it every fill up and now the calculation is accurate to within 1 mile +/-.

Why would they shorten the OLM time frame? What are they up to?
making more $ changing oil, would be my guess!

They did warranty work for the bad steering gear. They told me when they install it they have to reprogram the truck so it knows where the wheels are set at.

A got it. Might have been a steering wheel position sensor re-learn.

Only vehicle they are doing OLM reprograms on are High Feature 3.6 V6's (Lambda, CTS, SRX, etc.). No others.

Yeah but why would that mess up the reading for mileage ? I mean that's a huge difference. From the miles to empty and mileage out of 21 gallons.

Something does not sound right at all
