HPP3 Firm Shift Setting

Has anybody heard of 4L60E's failing when using the HPP3's firm shift setting?  Of course I've heard that it is actually better because there is less clutch slippage; but, want to get some real world responses.

I have my 00 Sierra set on firm, no problems thus far.  I wanted to mess with the shift points but not sure what would be the best settings.  I get pretty good gas milage as is.

I have had mine set on this for awhile now.  I didnt like it at first so i removed it then noticed i really missed it.  So i put it back on and have used it since

Firmer setting= less friction= better efficiency= longer life... Thats the concept, and the only reason things shift "smoothly" is because people want it that way... Know how many women would complain if their Tahoes "shifted to hard?"

I have heard of at least one person who messed up a tranny using the HPPIII along with the Tow/Haul mode.

So, if your towing your better off just using one or the other.

I have not had or witnessed a failure myself.  I do know several mechanics that service/hop-up Camaros.  They recommend NOT using the hypertech method of increasing shift firmness.  Having said that, I used it on my '99 and '02 and liked it.

The tranny failures were not due to typical wear and tear that most people associate with a tranny failure.

Shift firmness is increased when "line pressure" is increased

Valve body modifications and "shift kits" increase this line pressure by improving fluid flow in certain areas of the Valve body.

The Electronic Shift Kits hold a solenoid closed longer, until pressure builds up.  The failure that can occur due to this is the solenoid itself, and the seals involved in it's movement.

I know someone who had to have this replaced on a '99 Z91 without using hypertech.  It cost him about $350 to fix.

I was wondering about that very combination.  Yes it does seem the Tow/Haul firms up shifts and I do use it a lot in the city and in the twisties  ... so I guess that increased firmness AND the HPP3 increased firmness made it fail.
