First Seafoam treatment

Hey ya'll, this weekend I went ahead and decided to try out seafoam as it seems to be a pretty big rave. I was kind of hesitant to try it as I was afraid of screwing something up but I thought heck lets give it a try. After I warmed her up I put 1/3 bottle in the Brake Booster line and the rest in my oil because I have some techron for my gas tank. As I was pouring it into the booster vacuum my rpms would shoot up to 3000 which scared me a little but i found out i can fix that by just holding my thumb over the hose hole to calm it down. I accidently stalled the truck with my last bit of seafoam in the booster line but figured it would be okay. Then I just put the rest in the oil. I let it sit for 15 mins and the truck started pretty bad but it got goin and the smoke show began! After most of the smoke cleared I took her for a drive and had a little bit of blue smoke out the exaust but only for about 5 seconds. As I was driving I noticed smoother idle and better throttle response. I will definately be using seafoam more often! I was at 60k when I did the treatment this weekend and changed the oil afterwards. Just thought I would share my experience.

I use it in my oil and gas once in a while, I havent gottena big enough set to run it through the booster :tear:

I always go by the old rule, the best oil additive is no oil additive.

I just did the same thing to my car. I can really tell it is cleaning up the engine because it has only been a few hundred miles since I added it and the oil is very black already. I am not feeling much of a difference in the idle though. I may try this again in the future to see if I get any better results.

so your saying you've been running seafoam in your oil for a few hundred miles? did you read the instructions for adding it to the oil? they only recommend driving 25-30 miles with it in the oil before changing it. the seafoam dilutes the oil so its not as thick which helps remove deposits. but its not safe to run very long because you can harm vital engine parts that require proper lubrication. if this is true, change your oil immediately! i hope i just misinterpreted your post.

Nope, read further into the seafoam website and it says you can run seafoam in the oil up to 3,000 miles so long as your oil stays resonably clean. Here is an excerpt with a link from their website:

As an after service additive into fresh oil, nearly fresh oil, or oil (used condition) that is NOT ready to be changed (based on mileage since last oil change), put the same amount of Sea Foam Motor Treatment into the crankcase as described above, and then regularly monitor your oil for color and clarity. Set a predetermined schedule for checking the oil condition on a mileage, timed, or event basis (like every time you add fuel, etc.) to determine when an oil service is necessary. Monitoring of the oil for color and clarity will tell you when it is time to do an oil change service. NOTE: Do not exceed 3,000 miles without changing the oil.

Click the link above and you can read about the method you are using and the one I am talking about above. I am not a big believe in oil additives but I also think if you are going to use them, they will need more than just a few miles to work. If it took 50,000 or more miles for varnish and sludge to form, there is no way any product could possibly remove it with only 50 or so miles to work.

I am going to run the seafoam 1,000 miles and then change the oil. I have been pretty good to my car so I don't think (or hope anyways) it has much sludge or varnish in it.

The other kicker here is I am doing this in my 2002 pontiac sunfire, which has over 100,000 miles. I would Never do something like this to my 2011 silverado, I am not that dumb!

I love using the stuff. I seafomed my last two trucks without any issues and she always ran better after. I'll wait until about 15k on my current truck and watch the smoke fly! I usually let it soak for 30-45 minutes. The frist time I used it on my 02 Sierra with about 60k, man, that think smoked like crazy. And for about 20 minutes or so. I seafom in the dark and change my oil the next day.

that excerpt must be new, because a couple years ago when i did a seafoam treatment to my old truck, i swear that wasn't there. i remember driving mine for about 50 miles before changing it. on a truck with 150,000 miles that i used valvoline extended mileage oil on and a fram filter, it made quite a difference. the gunk that came out of the oil after that 50 miles was unlike any that i've seen!

have you guys tried their new Seafoam intake treatment with the spray nozzle? you insert between the intake tube and throttle body. seems easier than pouring it down a funnel into a vacuum line. i would still wanna take the intake tube off to clean the throttle blades though.

I poured the seafoam down the brake booster using a little funnel also. I only let it sit for like 10 minutes though, I will go longer next time. The smoke show was pretty crazy though. Knowing what it looks like now, I highly recommend anybody else who does this, do it at night! As far as the oil goes, it is pretty black now but I will get back to you guys and tell you what my oil looks like when it comes out during the oil change.

My truck only has 7K miles on it right now, I probably wont use seafoam or anything like it untill the 3yr/36,000 warranty is up. I am planning to take really good care of it so that it wont need a product like seafoam anytime soon.

Correct me if I'm wrong but on newer vehicles like the 900 series the brake booster induction method only gets half the block really well. When I did mine I did the booster line, the oil and the spray into the intake to make sure I got everything as good as I could. Worked wonders for the truck!

ive always thought about doing this- ive only put it in the gas tank...but honestly i have no idea what the proper procedure is. does anyone know of a good step by step with pics or a video? found this, but im not sure what hose that is....and do you really want to kill the engine the way he does?

so to get a complete clean you should do the gas tank, the oil, and the tube above?
