Hi Everyone- Need some ideas/suggestions

Hi, I have a 2000 Silverado Z71 with a 5.3. I want to increase horsepower as much as possible with bolts ons etc. I have a Flowmaster 44 and a Spectra Intake installed. I also have a Hypertech programmer on the way. The following are modifications I (think) want to do but need guidance with. I have about $2,000 to spend on truck. It would be nice to supercharge it but that would most likely be to expensive. These mods don't seem to radical and I want better gas mileage ..... but I don't mind sacrificing it for more HP :D .

1.)Airaid Throttle body spacer

2.)Hypertech Programmer

3.)Maradyne Electric fan- (Do not know which size to get. Maybe 12" ?) (Also do not know about wiring issue and communicating with ECU)

4.)MAF sensor (maybe Jet or Granatelli)

5.)SLP underdrive balancer pulley

6.) Altenator overdrive pulley

7.)Dayco 5060882 or 88.2 Eq serpentine belt

8.)Dayco 5040345 or 34.5 accer belt

9.) 160 degree summit thermostat

No Idea for the following:

10.)Increase/ replace throttle body

11.) Performance intake manifold

12.)Performance coil pack (MSD)

13.) Wires and plugs (which ones are the best for performance ?!?!?!?)

ANY OTHER IDEAS WOULD BE GREAT !

I'm driving a Callaway Silverado- conversion has brought it up to 540 bhp at flywheel.

Great truck with smooth ride. Biased here....I work for the company in SoCal and have the best engineers in the industry nearby.

Anyone else know of a Callaway truck owner on this forum?

Save your money on the throttle body spacer. Might have done something in the carburator days, but isn't going to do anything for your fuel injected engine.

It is good as a paper weight though in case you needed one.

Send the hypertech back and go with Blackbear. Huge difference. Throttle body spacer will gain you nothing. Electric fans will free up some horses and if you tune it they can program ecm to run fans for you.

Honestly, Take the real advice from the few of us who really know and have been through it all..

The hypertech is really a waiste! The custom tune is the best bang for the buck...! hands down!

If you want to do things right, Everythings has to work together properly..

Cam

headers 'preferably long tube'

real tune

good intake

exhaust

gear swap 4:10-4:56 depending on what you have now..

have the stocks heads worked/cleaned up, Or aftermarket aluminum.

Etc...

The biggist bang for the buck for vehicles with an automatic transmission is a "performance torque converter (lock up)". I would recommend a 3600 stall with at least a 2.5 STR (stall torque ratio). You should purchase a major brand like Yank or Vigilante (sp), and stay away from the junk, you get what you pay for.

You will also need an upgrade to your transmission, a "Transgo shift kit (any shop can install, no removal of trans)", and you should already have a transmission cooler, if not, B&M makes a great 24K unit for around $65.

You will need a tune (to change shift points, idle speed), however for any real performance modification (intake, headers, heads) you will need one anyway.

A performance converter changes the vehicle dramatically, even keeping the stock rearend gears, it handles the power differently between the engine, transmission, and rearend. It will cut your quarter mile times down by at least a 1/2 a second.

The only down side is that when the converter is not in "lockup (1:1 with transmission (like driving on the highway) ), you will drop about 1 to 2 miles a gallon gas milage driving in the city, however the fun factor is multiplied by 10.

DO NOT SCREW WITH THE MAF, THE STOCK UNITS ARE GOOD TO ABOUT 600 HP.

Just this one guy. Said he wanted something fast with some bells and whistles, but read posts like the first one in this thread and knew he was too dumb to make all of that work, so he got a Callaway. He says it's a lot like a dog, it whines when you step on it and moves in a hurry...
