Camera source backup cam install

Hey guys,

Have a 2011 crew cab Chevy silvy. Am installing a camera source backup cam to an ogm1 unit. There are plenty of included instructions, but I am a visual learner. Are there any videos out there of this install? I have scoured the net for hours to no avail. Thanks!

I was looking for the same thing and I found one but it turned out to be more involved than it needs to be. I found it to be easer to do a dry run and just visualize where and how you can run the wires. Start with the tailgate look for the drain holes thats where you will start. Get under the truck and look for the hole in the bed where the wire will run through. Next look on the driver side of the truck for some wire cables that you can piggy back on and run and zip strip to that main cable. Next look for the rubber grommet on the driver side floor area between the seat and the floor pedals, that's were you will bring the cables up from just cut the grommet. Now you are under the rug and in the truck. Next run the black and red wire to the box in the upper right corner of the truck to the left of the brake and run the video cable up to the advent. Take the cover off Follow the diagram and connect the red wire to #7 and black#1. It really was that easy. Like I said just do a dry run that will give you the confidence to complete the install.

Thanks! It turned out to be easier than I thought! For a newbie it took about thirty minutes to run the cable, another fifteen to drill the hole in my tailgate, ten to install the camera and new bezel. The only thing I did different- I didn't connect any wires to the power block under the break pedal. The power wires were long enough from the camera that I was able to just splice them into the 7-pin hitch plug in my bumper. Spliced the power wire into the light green wire which is the reverse light and the black ground into the wite ground on the 7-pin connector. I felt really confident in my abilities especially after I installed the ogm1, powered it up and flipped it in reverse and saw an actually camera feed!

Only thing you may want to consider if you do your connections outside the cab is that unless you insulate your connections perfectly (making them COMPLETELY watertight), your connections will most likely fail at some time in the future, requiring you to re-do the connections. We see this type of failure all the time - that's why we run power and ground into the cab on every install...

Thanks for the advice Walt! I sealed them with the rubber "stretch and seal" material. Then, I used a heat seal tubing over top to insure it was as water tight as possible.

Walt (ADC). I am going to order the Advent OMG1 for my 2009 Silverado, and a back-up camera. While on the Advent site I saw several license plate units, which I now have a cheap wireless setup, but I am not sure of the resolution or angle of view compared to the OEM in the tailgate handle. Do you have any recommendations that would give the best resolution and angle for backing up? Could you email me with prices?
