Air Filter for Sierra

I've got a 2008 5.3L V8 Z71 4x4 ext cab sierra. Filter is a bit dirty, so I'm going to change it. I've read a couple of places that some replacement filters (i.e. K&N) for my truck might trip the MAF (mass air flow) indicator. Is there any truth to this. I get a discount at my GM dealer, so the price is the same at the dealer for an OEM filter or if I go and risk a K&N filter. Any thoughts on this? I was considering a K&N 33 air filter hoping it might be a better quality and perform a bit better. I think the overall construction is a bit different though.....which may change the air flow characteristics..........and result in a MAF issue.

Your going to get as many opinions as there are air filter options and then some. My take: Put in the K&N, be sure to the follow the directions, and enjoy your day.

In case your wondering my K&N (filter only) has been in my truck for over 2 years, routinely cleaned and NEVER cleaned my MAF sensor as it has NEVER been dirty/oil covered.

the big thing is not to over oil the filter..a very lite coat is all that is needed. I've been running a Volant sense 03 and never had a issue. one thing i do is after oiling, i will use a paper towel and blot the filter with it to get any excess oil off. IMO. i would still clean the maf even tho it looks clean,
