I have the auto push button t-case in my 99 Z71, what would it involve to switch it to the lever Shifter on the ground?

Yeah I would imagin it would be pretty hard. Whats wrong with the push button?? I have a manual and dont mind it at all but the little compartment in the dash where the push button controls are (on a push button equipped truck) is pretty useless, I cant find anything to go in that hole, nice little compartment but for what?

Those are two different type transfer cases, you would need the transfer case and the shift mechanism from a similar year truck to swap into yours. Once completed you could sell your parts to recoupe some of the cost.

I use the space where the push button control would go to hold my sunglass case.  It just fits in there and hold it snug.  When I need to swithc form regular glasses to sunglasses, I just slide the case out of the compartment, take out the sunglasses, put in my regular glasses and put it back.  The case is soft and won't stay in the compartment without something in it.

All in all, not worth the effort of switching from push button to lever.

This is not actually that hard of a swap.  The manual shift NP241 will bolt up to the transmission the same as the electric NP242 and NP246.  The rear drive shaft can be retained but you would need a front shaft if you currently have the autocrap NP246 tcase.  Aside from the obvious stuff like putting a hole in the floor, which there is probably already a template stamped into the floor anyway, you will also have to plug a few resistors in the wiring harness to fool the TCCM into thinking you still are running an electronic shift tcase.  If don’t add resistors you will defiantly get a Service Transfercase Soon light on constantly.  I don’t know what Ohm resistors you would need but that could easily be determined with an ohmmeter by checking the resistance on the control head plugs and plug on the tcase.

I helped a dealer do this same swap a few years ago when I worked on the GM tech hotline.  The dealer was making some kind of race truck out of a ZR2 S-10.   The first time I have another problem with our Taco Z71 tcase after it rolls out of warranty I am wanting to do the same thing.   I absolutely do not trust electronic shift tcases.  Autotrac is nice when it works but that isn’t usually for long.
