Golf cart battery question

Ive got an 86 EzGo Marathon golf cart that I am turning into a hunting buggy. The batteries are starting to go, and I was wondering if it was possible to use 3 12v deep cell marine batteries as opposed to 6 6v golf cart batteries. Im only wondering because I think the 12v batteries are cheaper.

Anyone ever tried this?

Also have to look at the amps between the two set ups. 6volt batteries for golf carts tend to come with more amps then 12volt marine batteries.

Yeah, the more i read into it, the more it seems like a bad idea. Most places Im finding are saying that it will be a loosing proposition in the long run because they wont last as long per charge, or in total lifespan.

Seems that marine batteries are actually hybrid starting / deep cycle, rather than true deep cycle.
