Did you park near a Toyota? Maybe your truck "caught something". Lol

On a serious note, that is nerve racking.

feed it a honda, its just hungry

looool

You guy's made my day!

Is it possible that when you were pressing on the brake pedal your shoe was also hitting the gas pedal?

Happened to me once. It is scary too!

Hitting both pedals at once is very possible since I wear wide boots & I have done it before in other vehicles. Also I always double check my work when I work on my truck but I'm human so it also possible I missed something putting air inlet back together. So far no recur & everything has been checking out good for connection, electrical or otherwise. Currently away from truck for a few days so once I'm back I'll take another look. Thanks for the comments & suggestions.

mine did this after i cleaned the tb. i think it is because i was moving the butterfly by hand and maybe the truck thought the butterfly was in a different position than it actually was, i am not sure. it took it about 50 miles to get better (i am guessing relearn), it got progressively better as i drove. very nervracking.

Hey guys,

My wife was driving my truck yesterday and reported the same issue when she got some... " Possessed" she exclaimed ! Like it's stuck on fast idle she said... I drove it today and it won't do it for me... but... I have noticed that the engine does make a noise when just cruising at slow speeds around town (not sure if it's related or not )... The noise is like a " roar" , for lack of a better term... like a jet engine winding up.. not a whining like a water pump... it almost sounds like a large fan blowing air... when I give it more throttle it goes away and I can hear the actual motor/exhaust like normal... I wonder if this is related to the "fast idle" issue?

My '98 truck with the Vortec 5.7 did this when the intake air temp sensor popped out of my K&N cold air intake. Something to consider since you were recently working around the airbox.
