2005 Silverado A/C Quit Today

I drove home from work today, A/C blowing ice cold. Head out to run to the store a couple of hours later, A/C blowing cold. Come out of store 10 minutes later, no A/C. Blower runs fine but not cold at all. It isn't hot but not cold.

A while back I noticed the A/C belt was cracked and needed replaced so I thought it might have broken. Took a look at it was in tact, still needs replaced obviously.

What are the common problems with A/C on these trucks? Any idea where to start? I think its electrical related but I'm not sure. I checked the 2 fuses in door panel marked A/C and HVAC and they were ok (30a. and 10a.).

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

I have some additional details. Under the dash the last few days I have noticed a sloshing/dripping sound. I think the drip line may be clogged. Could this water have shorted something out? I know it can cause the blower to go but it seems to be fine.

Ok now I think I'm getting close! A/C compressor isn't kicking in. Any ideas why?

So far this is what I have found to check:

-Pressure switch (bypass)

-Clutch relay

-Radiator fan's - fuses, operation, etc

Anything else?

I won't pretend to be an expert in a/c systems, but you should post this over at http://http://www.autoacforum.com/. There are some really knowledgable guys over there that could probably get you more/faster help.

Replace the cycle switch. Its the switch that is attached to the silver can by the firewall, just disconnect the wire connector unscrew the switch and replace nothing will leak out of the system.

I have some additinoal details. It keeps blowing the 10a fues in the compressor clutch circuit. It lasts a day to few weeks before blowing. It normally blows after it has been driven and parked for just a few minutes before restarting. Best I can tell it is:

1. A compressor going bad, but it blows super cold when the fuse isn't blown so I'm doubting this.

2. A bad clutch.

3. A short in the compressor clutch wiring.

I think #3 is the most likley. With #2 as a close second. Any idea where to look for a short? It is pretty obviious where the wires to and from the clutch to the fuse box (under hood) but what about before the fuse box? I am assuming back to ac control unit in the dash? But I don't think its on the 10A circuit. I think the AC control unit runs a separate circuit that runs a relay that runs on/off the 10a cmopressor circuit. So that being said it almost has to be a short in the wires betwteen the fuse box and the clutch or a bad clutch correct??? :dunno:

First and foremost, how's your refrigerant charge? If it's low, it will wreck have on the entire system to included overworking the compressor and clutch.

I'd look real close at the clutch specifically. If is indeed for short in the clutch there may be some burned area/wires right at the clutch. From there I'd try to follow the wires back to the fuses and ensure you don't have any broken/worn wires that are shorting to the frame rails somewhere.
