Autocal Questions

So last weekend Justin was 1/2 and hour away from my house doing in person tunes but i just didn't have the money :banghead: poor planning on my part. Monday I found out I am getting a raise, so now I really have the itch to get my truck tuned and have been reading up on the autocal. I am not very good with computers, especially for a 23 year old. I can browse the internet and check my email and thats about it. Will this be a problem with the autocal? It seems like it is very computer involved. Is it easier when you have the instructions in front of you?

Im concerned about that too. Ive already got mine and Justin is working on the tunes. I followed the instructions on Black Bears website as well as EFI Live, but Im not sure I did it right. Ill try to let you know how it goes when I get my stuff in.

I am 66 yrs old and not a computer genius. I had no problem doing it to two trucks. The autocal site on Blackbear has good directions and is easy to understand.. ; )

So long as you follow the instructions on our site, you will be good to go. The folks that have problems, typically skip a step within the process. The error codes usually tlel you which step you skipped as well.

Like others have said, it is pretty straight forward. Only thing I really ran into was I got an error code $050B when I received my tune files and try to load them to the truck. Turns out that between the time I got the autocan and sent the log to justin and when he sent me the turns, EFILive release a new firmware which I applied just before loading the tunes justin sent. I had to reload the configuration files (what the instructions on BBP's site tell you to do when you first get the Autocal) again and THEN go to the truck to load the tunes. Becuase of the new firmware, the unit would not load the turns with the old configuration files in place.

That was i though. Everything else is pretty much step by step and the system seemed to have a lot of checks to prevent you from messing things up (like that error code i got).

Another piece of advance, when you do your initial log, make sure you have enough room for the trip you are logging. I kept filling it up because I was trying it on a 1 hour + trip which filled up the 6 MBs of memory and resulted in a corrupt file. Keep it to about 1/2 an hour.

Is all of this compatible with a Mac? I don't own a PC and I'm almost ready to bite the bullet and buy the autocal.

No, no tuning software is Mac compatible (unless you can run Windows). If you can borrow a laptop from someone, that is the ticket.

efilive.com is a good source of help too. Been fighting trying to pull data from my camaro. It will pull data out of my truck no issues the camaro not so much. Finally got it working and the file off to Justin tonight. AFM needs to go on this damn thing

Okay that makes me feel better. It just kinda scared me with all the reading I did with all the lingo that I guess if you have never dealt with a tune you wouldn't understand. But between directions, this forum and the great customer service I have heard BB has.. I cant wait to pull the trigger now.

What about a PC emulator for the MAC? Only trick is you it has to have hardware access via usb.
