Wix heavy duty vs. standard air filter

It's about time for a new air filter for the truck. Went to the Wix web site, punched in my trucks info and two air filters came up.

 

42487 - Standard White filter

42488 - Yellowish filter

 

Went to O'Reillys to take a look at both, ended up playing it safe and just bought the standard white one. I was going to take the ohter but I wondered if it would make the truck breath a bit harder?

 

 

Anyone know?

Pretty sure the filter media is just slightly different between the two. The heavy duty should be paper/glass mixed while the regular one is just paper.

On the ACDelco's I think the heavy duty has some more pleats (i.e. more paper area) and an extra support. In general I think it just adds more paper for more capacity.

Thanks, they cost the same & I wasn't sure. Any drawbacks to the HD one (that you can think of)?

The HD filter is standard with Z71 option package (rpo K47 Air cleaner, high-capacity) and it can be used for any engine. It has more pleats for greating dirt holding capacity such as encountered in off-road use.

 

The other filter is the standard air filter used in all trucks/suvs without Z71 option package. The only difference is in dirt holding capacity, performance is not enhanced or detracted with either one. They are both made of same materials.
