Rear Brakes Driving Me Nuts!

Recommended Posts

My truck had 48000 miles on it when I bought it and the first couple thousand miles no brake noise whatsoever. However now my rear brakes howl/squeak when stopping and it's always a second right before coming to a complete stop. I pulled the drums thinking maybe I needed new shoes but they look fine, so I cleaned things up with a can of brake cleaner flushing out all the dust. I have tried the auto adjust by backing up a few times and getting on the brakes hard and that doesn't seem to help either. I guess my next move will to be adjust them manually, if that doesn't work then who knows. The brakes work fine it's just annoying as hell when you pull up to a stop light and it sounds like a dump truck or a school bus stopping lol. Any suggestions?

Try taking a piece of sandpaper to the shoes and roughing them up a bit. Then adjust your brakes manually and take it for a spin. Sometimes that helps sometimes not.

Thanks for the tip I'll give that a try at this point I'll try anything.

In cars/trucks I had a howl like that usually indicated the drums or rotors needed to be turned.
