99 Yukon - A/C gets cold in rear, but not in front

Have a 99 GMC Yukon and the air conditioning seems to work in the rear of the vehicle, but not the front. The blower does work in the front and the rear, however the air coming out the front blowers just doesn't get cold. Took it into a dealership and was told that the evaporator was partially plugged and needed to be replaced at a cost of about $1200 (which I'm not thrilled about as this is significant compared to what the vehicle is even worth). Talked to another mechanic and he said, that this doesn't make any sense and it's probably a blend door actuator that needs replaced. Just wondering which of the two if either is the correct solution and if either can be replaced myself/how to do so. Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

No personal experience but based on your symptoms and my reading here, I'd be led to think the blend doors actuators are more likely to be at fault. I partially clogged evaporator doesn't make sense in my mind of how the air conditioning works in vehicles.

Check the actuators and check the refrigerant charge before throwing money on an evap.

Does the 99 Yukon have two evaporators? I guess I didn't realize there was one for the front and one for the rear. There is only one temperature control for both the front and the back. I will definitely look into the actuators first. The vehicle has plenty of refrigerant charge. Does anyone know where the actuators are located and how to get at them? Thanks!

I thought you said it had rear air. My mistake. My 'burb had rear air and separate controls. So definitely look at actuators
