That is what I am looking at next. One of the new Henry Big Boy Steel carbines for a nice ranch rifle for the pickup. Kinda looking at the .357, but also piqued about the .44. Probably will have to end up getting both!

Love my Marlin 336CS .30-30. I cleaned up the action and dropped in a Wild West Guns Happy Trigger kit that dropped trigger pull down from 7pounds to 2 pounds. Smoked a ho with it this hunting season. Dropped like a sack of potatoes, 75 yards in the neck 170gr Remington CoreLokt. Great guns!

Problems caused by Remington?

 

I just bought a new Marlin 336 30-30 at Wally World over Thanksgiving vacation (their Black Friday 20% off sale). I noticed the owner's manual said to shoot Remington ammo, to which I said, yeah, right, I'll shoot what I want as long as it works. Any problems I should be on the lookout for?

 

I really wanted a new Winchester 94, but from what I understand they are made in Japan and sold as Winchesters, and the MSRP is around $1200.

go to the MarlinOwners forum, there are 65494087624268426436546284183426 threads about ammo. Most agree, factory Remington 170gr corelokt are the choice. If you want to spend a little more, go with the Hornady Leverevolution 160gr. They seem to hold a good tight pattern.Greybeards outdoors is another great site.

Anyone looking to buy a Marlin, try to find a JM stamped barrel, which indicates the rifle was built by Marlin, not Remington (aka a Remlin). Although I've seen a lot of reports that the newer Remington made Marlin 336's have improved significantly over the early models. The older microgroove barrels seem to be preferred though.
