thumping noise on acceleration

I have a thumping noise that seems to be coming from the transfer case area. Had the shop take down the transfer case open it up to find nothing wrong from inspecting the parts inside. It only make the thumping noise if i am going uphill or acclearate fast from a stop. It makes the noise in forward or reverse. The mechanic had it on the lift with the brakes on and was able to get it to make the noise. He is stumped as to what is causing the noise. Said it may be the coupler in the transfer case but it is not leaking or bulging.

I don't know if this is it or not but I had something similar with an old Volvo I had and it turned out to be the rubber carrier isolator/bushing on the driveshaft that was shot.
