2007 Classic, Can I truly run 285's with a crank?

I ran 33x12.5" tires with factory keys...they rubbed. I also ran 285's too, they rubbed on a max turn in reverse on a slant, like backing out of a sloped driveway...that was it. That was no trimming at all either. 285's fit man. Don't worry.

 

And yes mine was a 2002 285/75 R16

 

 

Thanks for the info bud, I really appreciate it. I just wanted a specific answer especially from someone like you who I know takes their truck offroad quite often. Mine is usually a road queen until harvest season and in the winter here. I'm off camber parking in ditches and bouncing through grain rows during harvest season and then in winter we like to go out and see what trouble we can get into. I just don't want to be folding in fenders, ripping out wheel wells, or tearing off the front valance out there. Sounds like I'll have no worries. :cheers:

 

No problem dude, you know that's just my experience...every truck sits different. Mine was a 2002 RCSB step side, I ran 305/70 R16's (pro-comps), two sets of cooper discoverer STT 265/75's, a set of BFG 33x12.5's(rubbed pretty heavily) and I sold it with a set of cooper discoverer STT 285/75's, I don't remember them rubbing very much at all I think I only had keys turned up a little

This is with 285's dirty and my bug deflector is broke lol.

I miss that truck...v8 with a Bunch of engine work, 5 speed manual, Sachs clutch, 4:10 gears, Detroit locker..she was a sleeper. I had a little one needed to upgrade in size lol...I miss that truck tho. She was a real gem.

 

 

That was one BAD sounding truck! I have always had a soft spot for the step sides too, owned one for a short time and my budy has one with a body lift. My stock keys are cranked pretty hard and the angles aren't anywhere close to bad. If I get 285's and do rub I suppose I can get some reindexed keys and get another half inch out of it.

I just got word that my girlfriend got into Detroit Mercy dental school, which is AWESOME! I am so very happy and proud of her but, the issue is 285/70/17's are out of the question now. I will be driving 3+ hours 2 weekends a month for the next 4 years. I'm going to now stick with an meaty 265/70/17 and have always loved to look of Cooper STT's. I need the offroad traction for winter and out in the fields but, I have also heard of guys getting 40,000 miles out of these.

 

Questions:

 

Do any of you have pics of these tires in 265/70/17?

Do any of you have experience with road wear? Noise for me is not an issue.

if your looking for a tire to get a lot of miles out of do not get an AT or MT tire, get a good highway tire that will get you 60,000 miles if not more like michelin LTX's or firestone transforce HT's

Man I got ur MSG, 265 or 285 didn't really notice much difference. I don't have any other pictures, sorry lol. Take a look at dick cepek fun country 2's, I have 70k kms on mine still over %50, awesome tires. Not one issue, stick to anything made by cooper I.e. cooper, Mickey Thompson or dick cepek and you wont be disappointed. Here is a pic on FC 2's, I love them still have the aggressive look of a m/t but have the ride/quietness of an A/T. They work pretty damn good too I might add, I put them to the test. They work better than pro-comps I had, way better. Only complaint is they are no good on ice, but then again what m/t or a/t is??? Anyways man, Honestly I thought 265's look nicer IMO. 285s looked tall and skinny, I like em short and wide ahah. Take a look at dick cepeks man trust me you won't be disappointed, cheaper than coopers too.

I must have at least an A/T for my offroad and winter needs, just was hoping to get more than 20,000 out of an M/T if I got that STT.

No worries about the pics man. I did look into those FC 2's after you had mentioned them before and they do have me interested. I just can't get over how good your half ton looked with those 265 STT's. I'm going to search more photos of those Cepek's in a 265 because all the reviews I have read, including yours, say that they are SICK tires.

 

My other option is Cooper ST's, they still make them in a 275/70/17 which is spec'd out to 11.3 wide by 32.2 tall. I have read good things about them and that is your short and wide for ya, :lol: . I'm already tall and skinny, I don't need anymore of that in my life.

      I agree, simplicity and reliability matter more as vehicles get more complicated. A V8 work truck option with fewer electronic features and a stronger warranty would definitely appeal to a lot of buyers who use their trucks for real work. Customizing it with trusted outfitters is often the best way to get exactly what you need.webcrimsNY

      I’ve heard similar complaints from newer vehicles where the factory “premium” systems don’t always live up to expectations. A good installer should be able to improve the sound without turning it into a bass-heavy setup. I’d look into upgrading the front speakers, adding a quality DSP amplifier, and possibly improving sound deadening first—those changes usually make a much bigger difference than just adding a subwoofer. Hopefully someone local can recommend a reputable installer in the Las Vegas/St. George area.

      Do you remember that Harley Davidson was more successful (solvent) when it produced about 60% of the market demand (by design) and forced wait times of up to three years? Even when your turn came around it was, "Take what we are giving you or move to the back of the line and start over". HUGE markup's were 'normalized' and dealer killed. 40% markup and no floor plan? What's not to love? Greed will kill them yet. They have surplus production and customer base is tanking. And still they think nosebleed pricing will work.

      The engine was done as part of the 6.2 recall?   You'd have to see if your VIN also has the 6.2 engine special coverage on it.  Coverage number is N252494003.  If you have this, your engine is covered under this and NOT the GM replacement part engine warranty which is 3yr/100k from the date of install.  The 3yr/100k mi warranty is in effect for non warranty purchases.     This is not any different if it was replaced under warranty without a recall or special coverage.  So if you had a 5.3 and it popped at 3 years in at 50,000mi during the 5yr/60k powertrain, the replacement engine would not get the 3yr/100k, and instead gets the remainder of the 5yr/60k as coverage.     So N252494003 gives 10 years or 150,000mi of coverage, which ever comes first, starting at the vehicle in service date.  So if your in service date is 01/01/2022, N252494003 gives you special coverage of the engine until 01/01/2032 or 150,000mi, whichever comes first.  So if your start date was 01/01/2022, you'd have left 5 years and 4 months (lets round to august 1st), or 62,000mi left of coverage.   So you need to know your in service date to know how much coverage is left.

      Okiee dokie there bud, way to take things to the extreme.   I guess you missed the whole point and take things way to serious. I installed different EV6 style injectors that just so happen to be larger in my car running the same LQ4 engine and with a better spray pattern than the stock style injectors and I noticed no difference in the idle quality. Kinda was my round about way of saying that even if you put the same size but better style injectors in your truck, you will likely see the same thing.    I'm sure you're great to have conversations with in person if that's how you act through a keyboard. One little things sets you off and now I guess my dick is all up in your face.
