So I bought a new upper earlier this year. It's a stainless bull barrel, 1.8 twist, 20". I'm shooting 69gr 223 sierra match king loads. And my accuracy sucks...

At 75yrds my groups are not sub MOA. What the hell?

does this barrel need a break in? I've run 50 rounds the last 2 weeks and so far it's not what I expected.

Someone enlighten me please.

What kind of sights are you using? Try with a bench and do not move it at all. See what kind of group it can do from there. No matter where the first one hits, continue to aim right there to get the group. Post a pic of your target so we can see what you are looking at. Good Luck!

running a Nikon 3x9. I usually mount Leupold but I thought I'd give the other scope a try.

My groups are 2" dia. Not good at all. I should be shooting a penny every time at that distance.

I bought this upper because I wanted a tack driver... I'm going to buy some other ammo types just to see if I get lucky. I hear good things about Black Hills so that is on my list.

If it is a complete upper it will need to break in. Expect that to take 300-400 rounds. Also keep in mind every rifle has it's own ammo preferences, you will have to try different ammo till you find what you rifle likes. Also is this a .223 Rem, .223 Wylde or 5.56x45 Chamber. If it's 5.56x45, you may find it's more accurate with 5.56x45 than .223 Rem, do to the difference in throat length.

It is a new complete upper... I was wondering if there would be a break in.

Today it shot worlds better.

Corbon 55gr shot a 1/2" in group

Hornady Tap 75gr shot just over 1/2" group

PMC bronze 55gr was about 1"

Federal M193 Ball 55gr was 1"

Winchester Ranger M855 62gr was 2 1/2"

Hornady Match 75gr was 2 1/2"

I'd say this upper is really picky. Hopfull after some more time it will tighten up more with other brands.

Today made me feel a lot better about my purchase.
