Hello, I currently have Firestone Destination A/T's, there worn out after 42000 miles, primarily two of them, but all could be replaced.. damn blackbear tune after i got it... would throw up smoke clouds..

Currently on it is 265/75/16's on stock wheels.. I've been looking at Cooper AT3's, Firestone Transforce A/T's( E range only 44lbs compared to 42lbs for the destinations i have now), But i've also been thinking about changing wheel size.. to like 17 or 18inch.. I don't want 20inch wheels.. but then im thinkn.. is an extra 600-1000$ for new wheels on top of the tires worth it.. has anyone had any success having people powder coat or pain the factory aluminum rims? Cause I want more of a blacked out look hence wanting newer wheels..

Any help/ input on what your liking/ seeing / running is greatly appreciated.

Currently the reason I don't want to go back to the firestones I have now is wet weather traction.. its terrible.. winter and off road and dry are great aspects of the tire though.

i have the same exact tire except they are 285/70/17. i had the same 16 inch rims that you did but didnt like or want 16 inch rims. i bought the rims they put on the 04+ trucks on CL for 200 because i like them better and they are 17 inches and in WAY better condition chipping and peeling wise. i personally dont like stock powdercoated wheels, i think it looks stupid.

the firestone transforce are really good tires, you'll probably get more miles out of the transforce but the offroad performance wont be as good as the destinations. and the destinations look better IMO

and about the wet weather traction, i dont think there is one tire that is better then the other in the rain on a pickup truck, i have had all types of tires, AT's, HT's, and they all spin easily in the rain.

Everything I have heard and read about Cooper AT/3's are great reviews. I wanted a bit more of an meaty tire so I went with the Cooper ST in a 275/70/17. Put 1000 miles on them already and love them.

In regards to wheel size, remember that usually tire prices go up the larger the wheel diameter. At least that has been my experience.

^^^ I agree. No reason to step up to a bigger rim size, unless you just want them and have $. My truck would have 16's, but the smallest I can fit over my brakes is 17". Tires for 16" are way cheaper. Look into Falken Wildpeaks, they're what I'm getting next set after all the good things I've heard about them.

Thanks guys, unless I can find some better rims off a newer chevy/gmc or something on craigs list I guess I will probably just replace the tires.. Any good reviews on the Toyo Open Country A/T's? I've heard there silica base makes them more pliable in the cold weather.

I'm running 285/70/17 Goodyear Duratracs on my stock 17" rims and love'em. The ride is great and their pretty aggressive for an AT tire.

id personally stay away from goodyears.. as many others would on this site. those toyos are great tires, i had them on my 01 and they were good on road but not great offroad. got a lot of miles out of them

I decided to keep the stock wheels and bought a AR-15 with the cash instead, Went with Cooper Discoverer AT3's.. Only have about 500 miles on them since I got them, quiet, good grip so far, we shall see once winter comes. On a side note, since I rarely pull, and about the heaviest thing that goes in the bed is sandbags/ firewood/ my snowmobile.. I was in a toss up between the P tires and LT, I ended up going P for the sake of 170$ difference and there weight rating was some how higher then the 6ply LT tire, obviously the 10ply LT would be higher, but it's a 1/2 ton and I figured that to be overkill.

Thank you guys, I recommend them for the price ( 600 installed after a 50$ instore gift card (Mills Fleet Farm) and the 75$ rebate (going through November 6th), and for someone looking for a moderatly aggressive A/T tire. So far so good as I said, I'll let you know after I get back from deer hunting and once the snow hits the northern plains!
