ABS HELP!

Hi,

I have a 2002 Silverado 2500HD, and its having an ABS issuie. Every time i break under 5mph the ABS kicks in. I have already replaced one censor and take the others out and cleaned them and they were fine. But its still doing it. The wheel bearings seem fine.

Any ideas on what else I can try?

It's the hub bearings and abs sensor. Best off buying the whole unit with sensor. DMAX store has them. I just bought mine. $200 each for Timken Units. Bought both sides.....

 

 

If you google your condition you'll see all the threads about it. Another common issue with these trucks!!!!

The dealer removed and cleaned my bad sensor (right front I believe) 2 years ago and it has been fine since. I think it is actually a dangerous situation to drive it like that because it adds an extra 5 feet to your stopping distance.

Mine's been like that for over a year now....adds how much just as you stop????? Mines not that bad, just a pulsation through the pedal just as you come to a stop. I removed and cleaned (the area where the abs sensor mounts). No change. I read the area (on hub assembly) where the sensor mounts rusts and that rust jacks the sensor up. This causes a minor change in the clearence between the sensor and the inductor wheel (in the hub) and gives incorrect readings to the abs computer. Or the bearing is going and this clearence changes from wear. Either way by the time you buy a sensor and maybe pay to have it put in, you may as well go all the way and do the hub. And if you do one, you may as well do both.

Have the same issue and i change the front bearing, disc and calipers and i still have the problem. I use to live with it.

I just had a post about this... Mine is doing the same thing!! and i just recently started getting an 'abs' light now and then, I guy i was talking to said he does his hubs every 70,000.. So i think thats were im at at, Id like to replace both whole assembly,s. Has anyone done the replacement? Is it something i can do in the driveway?

Whats the difference from the timkin to the other brands?? I was looking on ebay and the timken kit from jcwhitney is double the price then the others. Is there a reason..Is it really a better qaulity part??

I did mine on my driveway wihtout any problem as long as you have the propert tools. It isn't a big job.

ok, dont you need a BIG socket for the one bolt....

Well its a long time ago from now that i did that job but if i remembering well i diidn't have needed a socket bigger then 1 1/4 inche.

Most likley you just need to remove the sensors and clean the surface area. I'm a truck tech, and have done literally hundreds of them. If the bearing/hub assemblys are good, I wouldn't change them.
