well if they are going to bring the 4.3 back its going to have to be completely revamped. its a reliable engine but in this day and age, it gets shitty MPG for a V6 and has no power.

Agreed on the MPG's, at least on my 97' they were not stellar, low end power was ok. Reliable as the day is long though. A new 4.3 would have to make 300 ponies and get low to mid 20's for mileage.

I'll agree with the first statement but "no power" I'll have to respectfully disagree. My old Sonoma had awesome power and to be able to tow 5200lbs is not exactly a no power issue to me. 250ft lbs at 2800 rpm is pretty respectable for the smaller truck. Now in a full size, definitely would be a limiting factor even though it's a tich more powerful in the full size.

EDIT: when i said no power, i meant to say it is underpowered in the full size truck chassis. the 4.3 is a good size in the blazers and s10's

what is consider under power ?

Me personally, I say underpowered by comparison to the 4.8/5.3. It's a great motor on it's own just when I was looking to get a bigger travel trailer back in 2006, I needed to step up in the engine department. Personally wouldn't be pulling around a 6k+ pound trailer plus gear in truck with a 4.3. Can it? Maybe. Continuosly? Doubtful. No insult.

i believe the tow rating for a 4.3l silverado with 3.73s is rated to tow something like 5300 pounds. A regcab curb weight is like 4250 pounds . So its a pretty light truck . A S10 curb weight with a smaller engine ways around 3030 pounds.

The 4.3l to me is enough power to do light work nothing heavy. It moves around my little 1500 alright I dont feel under power . I can put fire wood and all sorts of crap in the back of the box . Hay bails and the most weigh i put in was prawn bait about one ton or 2000 pounds. Did not seem like i was under power but the front and back was almost on the bumper stops . It drove around fine .

I agree tho my next truck will have a bigger motor because in a truck a bigger engine is always nice

Yeah I think we will always need a tough V6 option for the full size for just that reason. In my opinion the 4.3 has held it's own in many ways, but does need an upgrade. Hate to see it go (if it goes.) I guess we'll all see what the new models have in store.

If a stronger more powerful v6 comes out I would consider buying one when I buy a new truck. So far I have not have had a need for a bigger motor.

I'd probably edit that. GM does have people who monitor this site.

Yeah, Probably a bad idea. If I lost my job I could care less because I'm leaving but I'm going to work for a supplier and I don't think they would like it if the customer was pissed at me.

its whatever YOU consider underpowered. i have driven fullsize 4.3's and they are dogs IMO. even the 4.8 is a dog, my 4.8 dosent pull 4500lbs well at all.
