Conventional to synthetic oil?

I have an 09 5.3l AFM motor with about 45,000 miles. Truck has been well maintained. Wanting to switch from conventional to synthetic oil but I've heard stories that doing this on engines with age can cause leaks. I've never used synthetic so im not sure if this is fact or fiction. Do you guys think it would be safe? If so what brand do you recomend? Amsoil seems to be a popular choice. Thanks!

No problems. Safe to do. Oil choices? Everyone has different opinion. Any top well known brands that meet the required specs. will be good. Are looking to extend your oil change intervals? If so, how far?

Yeah would like to get 5000-7500 miles between changes if possible.

I've been really happy with Mobil 1. I change every 5000, but could prolly get away with 7k or so. I use the extended filter.

It's helpful to have an oil sample analyzed after you try a new oil.

I use Mobil 1 Synthetic with their extended performance filter. I change when the truck tells me to. It's probably almost 10,000 miles between changes, but I drive a lot of highway miles

I switched to synthetic about a year ago and havent had any problems.
