Its been a lot of years since I search out stereo equipment for a vehicle. Most, I have memory lose of and also much has changed. The truck is a 2005 GMC Sierra 2500 HD with ECab. Bose radio, XM non Onstar. Im interested in buying a system in stages. Dont need mega power or huge bass. Just some good clear sound and fair volume. The facory head unit CD portion finaly gave out so its time to upgrade.

The trouble maybe that it needs to work with the Bose pieces until I can afford to buy speakers and amps to go with a head unit. That will be my first purchase piece. A self powered Infinity Basslink 200amp needs to work its way into this as I have one brand new in the box. Originaly had a Basslink go bad and it was replaced by Infinity just never installed. Couple features I would like to have is CD,XM and possibly HD radio. But not a must. So that right there will tell ya Im a simple guy with simple radio needs. Easy to use and sounds good! Now Im not great with wiring either so I may fall into the adapter harnesses. Although I do have a PAC interface piece for the Bose to Basslink if that will help.

If you guys can help me out and lead in the right directions for head unit ,speakers and amps I would very much appreciate the help.

What I would use is a PAC adapter from a new head unit to Bose, and then run audio out from the new head unit to your amp. I was considering doing mine, but I got an iPod adapter and called it good.

Thanks for the input. How do I go about finding the correct PAC adapter for my vehicle and reciever? Just to clairify are you saying to run rca's from the reciever to the sub amp? And bypass the Bose pieces?

Thanks Chris

Google them. You can search by vehicle on their website

^^^ What he said, it should be pretty easy to find.

And when I was looking at doing mine, that's what I remember being the simplest way. I was going to put a box under the rear seat with 3 ways and a woofer or two, and just feed the signal to 2 amps with RCA and Sub out from the deck. That way, if you sell the truck you can keep your setup, but the truck will still have Bose.

Don't know if DVD, Bluetooth or cool iPod interfaces are a high priority for you, but some of the new A/V decks are pretty cheap, but on the surface may seem to be a bit of overkill if you're looking for a simple deck. However, when you see how much they do for the prices they go for now (1/2 what they were two years ago...), you get a LOT of bang for the buck.

We're kinda partial to the JVC KW-AV60BT, JVC KW-AV70BT and a couple of the new Pioneers. Again, LOTS of bang for the buck on these new decks...

You are very much correct in the bang for the buck. And I do like the touch screen over small buttons in a truck bouncing down the road. Also that it will fill the entire space of the factory radio. Will give it some thought.

Thanks Chris
