After having problems w/ my current dial-up ISP I may be switching over to DSL.  I've got to call tonight and make sure it's available, but by the end of the week I may have it.  So, no I'll be able to get on here more and more.  My current ISP I couldn't sustain a connection for more than five minutes and I complained about it, but they said that it wasn't them.  Although, on saturday I managed to stay online for 8 hours.  But, I guess, you can't beat the speed you get from DSL.  

 

Here's Hoping.

DSL is great, had it at my old house for close to a year with minimal problems. It was nice to blaze through the net at almost instant speeds.

 

Who is your carrier? I had Verizon, took almost 4 weeks to get it hooked up. Moving to cable at the new house...$29.95 vs. $49.99 for DSL. Plus Verizon's billing system is so screwed up... took me 9 months to clear up a bill with them. They still haven't cancelled my DSL from my old house, and it's been almost a month now and 2 phone calls to cancel!!!

Currently I have CoreCom, but originally 2 years ago it was ExecPC a local ISP.  I had no problems w/ them, but now that they were bought out I've had nothing but problems.  The only two DSL providers in the area are direct TV DSL and Ameritech.  I'm probably going to get it through ameritech since that is our phone company and I think that we were offered a special rate and free set up.  My computer already has a DSL modem and a network card so it's all set up for it.  The cost is 50 a month, but I guess for a constant connection and the fact that you can still use the phone it's worth it.  Although I should probably have it run through my 2nd phone line just because it would be easier.

I have AT&T @home.  Never had any connection problems other than when my computer quit working.  Setup was very cheap and cost is $49.99 a month.  Would be $39.99 a month but you rent a modem for $10.  Cheaper than buying a modem at lets say best buy then taking it in to have it programed or whatever.  Also if something happens to it they replace it for free unlike if you purchase one

Alright, well I just called ameritech and set it up.  The actual install date of the wires will be on the 12th of december (seems very far away) and I should be getting the dsl and home install kit stuff via ups in a week or two.  I think that it uses some type of USB modem because I can't think of what else they would need a usb port for.  After I get that all set up I'm going to network my sisters computer to it.  The reason that I've got the money for it now is because we are splitting the cost 50/50 so it's only 5 bucks more a month for me.  I've got a buddy to help me w/ networking the two computers.  Good thing before we finished the basemnt we ran some of that blue conduit through the walls for feeding wires, comes in handy all the time.

I wish I could get DSL, I have @home here for $40/mo after modem rental.  Setup was free by the way.

 

Cable rocks for searching the web, but I'm a gamer and that 128 kpbs really sucks for hosting a game, DSL is way better in that department.  I hate being able to download in excess of 400 kbytes/sec and only upload at 14.5 kbytes/sec.

nope, thats me! :D  the only thing that slowed me down here was my 1 week time out.  but 4x4 does post A LOT!!

nope, thats me! :D  the only thing that slowed me down here was my 1 week time out.  but 4x4 does post A LOT!!

Hey most of that is at work, but now I'll be on at home even faster, and it seems like that is when everyone does the majority of the posting.  When I'm at home I'm usually using Kazaa and downloading songs so I just leave the computer to download, otherwise it's really slow when I check out the forums.

I got my DSL at my house in May, and it was soooooo nice!  I used to have dialup that would bump me off, and then when I'd reconnect it would ring and ring and ring and never answer.   Every time I called them, it was never their fault, and it was always cuased by the same setting that we "fixed" the previous time around, and then when I'd tell them, "Thats what you told me yesterday and it's also the same thing we 'fixed' 4 months ago' they would go, "Hmm, it must be your phone lines then"    Dialup is RETARDED!

 

I love DSL and won't go back to dialup if I have any choice in the matter. I'm stuck behind a 56k at work, but at home it's full-speed-ahead! :D

I can't wait for them to put it in, dec 12th seems so far away.  When it's finally set up I'm going to revamp my whole website w/ a bunch more pics and change the whole look of it.  I would do it now, but it's just too slow at home when I'm uploading.  With the DSL service I'm getting they said you can download at up to 750 kbps and upload at up to 128.  So that's not too bad, considering w/ dialup I'm downloading at 4 if I'm lucky.

... and uploading at 2.5 if you're lucky.  Your max upload will be about 16kb/s, but still, thats a SUBSTANTIAL increase over dialup.  And your downloads could be 20+ times faster than your modem if on the right server.  750kbps = 93.75kb/s

 

My DSL is 512/256, and my uploads are pretty dang fast...  I've peaked download at 60K/s and the maximum thruput of 512 is 64kb/s, so I can't complain at all.

 

My pings on good Halfilfe TFC servers are 70-120.   More than playable. :D

Naw... shouldn't have any problem, really.  If you were in the middle of a game and she loaded an graphics intensive website or downloaded something, your ping would spike a little.  But just chatting you'll should be fine.

 

Until my sister moved out, there were 3 computers sharing our DSL (and before the DSL, there were 4 sharing the 56K   :D - my dad kept the dialup for himself for web hosting reasons)  and I didn't even notice a difference with the 3 of us surfing on the DSL.  If I had been downloading something big and fast it might have slowed a little.  Now my sister went to college and my brother and I are the only 2 to use it..... and when I can afford my own place the DSL is coming with me since I'm paying for it in full.

      Your tire pressure issue may just be batteries, you can reset them using tge Ing switch (I think) and the owner's  manual. ChatGTP will b e a faster, better help than Google.

      The thinking is that starting out in a higher gear makes it easier to avoid applying excessive torque when pressing the gas pedal. In a modern 4wd truck with 4 low and a limited slip or locking rear end, I would use 4 low and try to crawl up the ramp. Sometimes if they are too slippery, you have to back up to let the boat have some bouyancy, and then accelerate briskly to get some momentum to help you pull the through the slippery parts.

      I have a Retrax pro that I first had on my 2020 chevy and transferred it to my current GMC.  It stays in the garage most of the time, so hard for me to judge it's long term weather resistance.  It still works perfectly, been very durable.  It doesn't see oil patch usage, but it's not a mall queen.  It keeps most things mostly dry (small leaks) and the security of it is enough to slow someone down but not keep them out for long.  I would buy one again, it works for me.

      Thanks to the convenience of Amazon, I was able to get a few things done to the truck today.  I installed Carquest Premium oil and air filters with five quarts of Mobil1 High Mileage 10-30 along with a quart of Pennzoil Platinum 5w-30 I already had.  The latch for the flip up center console lid was broken so I replaced it along with the power mirror switch.  I found my push retainer assortment this morning and reattached the plastic under the bumper and it was only held on with a few screws and retainers.  Then I programmed a new remote keyless entry fob so I can lock my dog in the truck when I take her out with me (I've got to keep the air going for her since it's been in the 100s).  Finally, I ordered some LED interior bulbs and replaced the reading lamps.  The front lights are working fine while one of the back lights only works intermittently and the other not at all.   While under the truck, I found the source of at least one of the noises: the sway bar links need replacing.  I ordered a set of Suspension Dudes links with Code Red bushings.  Never heard of them, but they're made in the USA and have decent reviews.  While making yet another Amazon order, I went ahead and added a set of front tow hooks.  I went with red, since that's the color of the sway bar link and bushings and it should look decent enough on a black and chrome truck.  Speaking of which, it doesn't bug me much, but the passenger side mirror has a chrome cap while the driver side doesn't, so eventually I'll make them match one way or another.  Oh, and I ordered a $20 TPMS reset tool.  No idea if it will do anything for my sensors but it was cheap and will work for the Ford Transit Connect as well.     For tradition's sake, I ordered a new oil change wrench.  I kept the Snap-On 9/16"x15mm GM wrench I bought when I was 18 in the 2006 GMC from the time I bought that truck until the truck was lost.  While I was tempted, there's no need to spend $80 for a new SO wrench, or even $50 with shipping for a used one on Ebay.  I just bought a Duratech 15mm extra-long ratcheting wrench to do the job as needed.  It works, and if I like that wrench enough, I'll buy the set.

      The recall is for exactly this issue - those drain holes combined with the limited environmental capability of the tailgate electronics card inside the tailgate were a problem. The “safety issue” was the potential for the tailgate to spontaneously open, but all kinds of tailgate misbehavior can occur from water contamination of that control card.    There is no real fix yet. The initial recall just disabled the tailgate. Later, when parts became available, they would replace bad parts with new parts of the same bad design. My dealer is going nuts because the few times I let them get their hands on my truck, my tailgate is off due to a slide-in camper installation. They really want to cut my tailgate wires, but I won’t give them the chance. I will let them get their dirty hands on it when a real fix (redesign) is available.  My tailgate, which works just fine with sealant plugging the drain holes, will remain safe in a dry storage crate until then.
