Straighting steering wheel after T-bar Crank?

Recommended Posts

Posted

I cranked my torsion bars up about 1.5" to level out my truck, the increse in height twisted my steering wheel over to the right about 1/2" from center.

Had an alignment and told them my steering was off a little. Drives great after the alignment, but my steering is off the other way now.

Is there a way I can adjust this without taking back to the shop?

thanks

Nope.

They will need to make an adjustment at the tie rod ends to center it. Should not take all that long.

Make sure they compensate the steering wheel for actual road driving and not just making it dead on center on the allignment rack. It be great on the rack and then when you go down the road it'll be off to one side or the other because of the road crown, drives me crazy.

Altering ride height changes the amount of toe in. It might not result in an offset wheel, but the toe won't be set correctly.

I had the same problem when I tweaked the T-bars on my 2006 Sierra, which was also about 1.5 inches. It took 3 tries to get the alignment correct and the steering wheel centered.
