Are you changing your air cleaner on a regular basis?

My 09 now has a whopping 22,300 miles on it. :driving:

I was wondering when you guys are changing the air filter and if you are using a stock filter or a aftermarket brand something like a K & N or whatever is out there.

I have the bone stock 5.3L and do mostly freeway and city driving. No offroad or dusty conditions.

The air cleaner service is under the Maintenance II section which I do not know when that will show up on the display and the manual wasn't too clear on that either.

Also, I remember my 02 silverado had a little device on the air cleaner that was supposed to tell you when the filter was getting restricted.

I could not find that on my 09, is something like that still there?

I change it when it is dirty. I only have had that little vacuum gauge move once for me and the filter was the problem...... not from being dirty but just being a restrictive POS. The truck of course suffered a loss of fuel economy and more notably power when that occured.

The air filter will not pop an indicator of any kind on the dash. Just pull it and take a look every once and a while. I use stock paper filters under the Wix brand that at my cost are about $10 ( your 09 uses the same filter I use in any of my trucks). I see no justification for an oily aftermarket filter anymore.

I currently use a K&N and I check it at every oil change (~4k mile intervals). If it looks dirty I will clean, relube and reinstall it. Usually it works out to be about once a year it needs it. If you are mostly highway and don't see much dirt/dust you probably could go a long time between changes.

I have the GM Performance CAI. I check the filter every 12,000 miles. If it's not too dirty I usually blow it out with the air compressor and put it back in, and then check it again at the next oil change. I think the last one I bought I ran for about 20,000 miles.

I check my air filter and vacume it even if it seems clean . Ive only changed my air filter once and I dont even think I needed to change it . I had a spare one sitting around in the garage and changed it at around 60 thousand km .

I just changed the air filter in our '09 Traverse with a whopping 22,800 miles on it. I probably could have gone longer, but after this amount of time and mainly city driving, why not be safe than sorry? I replaced it with a stock media filter (Napa Gold) as I, too, do not believe in oily filters.

i usually replace every 20k. that vacum indicator probably works but i have never waited for it to go into the red.
