Manifold/Cat flange

Are these bolts going to be a pain to get off? I have to change my cats in my driveway because they are used cats. Every exhaust shop I called will not do it. I plan on using a ton of PB on them and getting new gaskets. anything else I should know or need to prepare? Also what size are the bolts/nuts?

Yeah, they are probably not going to be easy. Just soak them for a couple days. Make sure you use a socket and don't round them. A little trick to use is if the PB blaster doesn't work, heat the bolts up a good bit and stick a candle on the end of the threads and let the melted wax wick into the bolt threads.

I have an impact. Would that help?

I'd stay away from the impact, try a breaker bar. Use the impact as a last resort.

On the manifold itself? I'm more worried about the flange for the cats

Didn't that engine just get installed a short time ago? I'd think the nuts will come off the studs pretty easy

thats a good point, you shouldnt have anything to worry about, it it was you 4.8 with over 100k, they would be a paint in the ass. like dave said, stay away from the impact.

If that truck has been in CA it's whole life they'll probably be fine. Not to mention they were definitely removed for the motor swap.

I lived in florida for a while with the truck

If those flange studs/nuts are anything like my '04 'Vette, the nuts are prevailing torque, and will distort the stud threads when removed. Be proactive and buy new studs/nuts before you do this; I think you'll be glad you did. BTW, my 'Vette was only 3 months out of the factory when I learned this.
