2006 GMC Sierra cooling fans question.

Well.....believe it or not, I'm one of the three people on the planet that doesn't yet have a smart phone....maybe I can find a ten year old nearby and borrow theirs. Yeah, have to switch pretty soon........business has just been very slow, and having to pay for a data plan just hasn't been a priority.

 

I'm assuming I could use a tablet and the same app, yes? If so, what type of OBD2 adapter do I need. This is brand new to me, so sorry for what may seem like a stupid question.

If you go to eBay and search for OBD2 adapters you'll see a ton of them. I bought a cheap one advertised that it would work with "torque" and it works fine. If I were you I wouldn't let it concern me that much though.....sounds like your fans are working fine to me.

Well, I'll continue to keep an eye on it, and if I decide to do that in the near future, something like this

Will it work with a tablet as well? It works with Android, so I'm assuming so.

I would assume so but I'm using one w/ a bluetooth connection.....keep that in mind when/if you decide to purchase an adapter.

Found this post looking for why my 2006 GMC did not have cooling fans come on with the A/C in Florida. My A/C had vented most of the charge off at some point going to work and no air on the way home. The high pressure port with the rubber valve had ruptured and recharged the A/C only to find out with gauges on it would go beyond 300PSI and no fan. Followed the earlier part of this post with the pressure high and no fan  so I shut the air off and let it get up to 224`with my scan tool and the passenger side fan kicked on and the truck cooled right down within seconds. Changed the A/C pressure transducer and all was well after that for a couple weeks. A/C quit working again and reperformed same checks and no cooling fan at all. Found an electrical diagram which for me explained the series/parallel relay (S/P relay, the one with 5 blades) and why when I put both my probes in that pigtail I never saw voltage. Longest story short low speed is in series so that if one fan motor goes bad neither will run at low speed and the PCM output can be checked by the left fan green wire to chassis ground for proper output.
