imcgyver Posted March 17, 2013 Posted March 17, 2013 Hello, I had a recent experience with my 2008 Silverado 1500 4x4, on cold nights and morning I would start up warm up and drive away but when I turn the steering wheel would turn around 1/4 turn then it would feel like I lost my power steering and would want to turn back to starting position, took it to a couple of dealers and 1 independent service facility on cold mornings and they all took it, test drove it and all gave me the same diagnostics a bad check valve and /or bad pump and a high estimate. I did not agree with the diagnostic, so I dug deeper I took off the steering boot seal under the hood and found that the boot is 2 layers of rubber and the inside rubber was stretched, looked at the shaft and found the part number sticker was still there and adhesive from the sticker exposed grabbing the boot, removed sticker cleaned shaft and installed a new boot ( my truck had the more expensive boot ) now on cold mornings and nights it is normal steering no more binding, the boot was a lot cheaper than the repair estimates. Just wanted everybody to know my situation in case someone else is having the same problem. Ron

00Silverado4x4 Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 Hmmm, I'm having similar issues, especially during the "chillier" mornings. I'll have to take a look see at that. Thanks
Bad Bowtie2 Posted March 19, 2013 Posted March 19, 2013 That is a SHOCK!!! Thanks for posting this up Ron.
RAT-ON Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 Interesting. From the day I brought my '08 home I noticed issues with the steering. Anytime I was moving slow or backing into the driveway it was like I lost all power-steering. Can't say that I notice it was much anymore, but maybe I've just gotten used to it. At times it almost seemed like it was locked and wouldn't turn. I've had non-power steering trucks before and none were that hard to turn
