Hello GM-Trucks

I have a GMT800 5.3 auto 1500

I need more power, and more importantly a manual gearbox in my truck, luckly a I can borrow the drivetrain of a 2500. The issue is that I have a choise of a 6.0 vortec, or a 6.6 duramax. Either engine I choose would be rebuilt (gasoline) or tuned (diesel) to around 500 hp. I was wondering if anyone has one of these engines with this much power, and what fuel consumption go with them, as I will be using this truck as a daily driver, and probly never towing anything ever.

Thank you for any information

What would you like to know. You can go 2 routes with a 6.0. There is the LQ4 from 2500/3500, Yukon Denali, Suburban LTZ. 325 HP out of the box. Its a lot easier to find used. Then there is the LQ9 which I have. 345 HP out of the box. Its an LQ4 with flat top pistons. Higher compression and it uses 91-93 octane gas. It was in the Silverado SS, Sierra Denali, Escalade.

From what Chris has said 6.0 is pretty easy to put in. Putting in a manual is a waste of time and money IMO. A good auto will get the power to the ground smoother, not to mention you have the advantage of a torque converter.

Either 6.0 you can reuse your complete drivetrain behind the engine
