Very cold

This morning was -8F. It was tough getting started on work let alone start the trucks. The Dmax was no problem, started right up, but I do have it in the garage.

The PSD barely started before the battery went dead. I let the glow plugs go three times before it finally cranked over well enough to fire up. Then it was off to the job site. We have a rental lift on the site. It is a Mustang with a John Deere diesel. It wouldn't start at all. I plugged it in and went to breakfast. Came back an hour or so later waiting for the temp to rise and it still wouldn't start. The battery eventually went dead so I had to jump it. Finally it started. It took till noon to get everything going and the crew working. What a tough morning.

Tonight is supposed to be colder, as it only got to 0 today. I have everything ready to plug in tomorrow morning. Hopefully it will be a better day.

It's real tough getting people to work also when it only gets up to 0 for a daily high.

WIMPS hehehe

The coldest morning I have started my Powerstroke without plugging it in was 11 deg. It started the first time but didn't sound to pretty.  I wanted to see what would happen. The next night I plugged it in and the temp got down to 15 deg and it started right up. There was a big difference. I have read alot about the factory batteries on the Fords not being very good and needing replacement within the first few years. I will probibly replace mine next fall.

Thanks for the info. I haven't heard that yet. I have had one of the cables loose though and it wouldn't turn over fast enough to start.

BTW, it is -15 this morning and it will take till noon to get going again. I will have to plug things in for a few hours.

Just a cost savings idea. Get a timer and have it set so that it starts the block heater 2 hours befor you are ready to go. The truck is ready and your power bill is not through the roof.

Seems you are trying to convince yourself that you made a wise decision on your truck purchase. There is no need. The 8.1 is an awesome motor.

I plugged the Stroker in this morning and it blew the breaker in the barn without me knowing. I'm not sure how long it was on, but the truck didn't get started today. Hopefully I'll get it going tomorrow.

I had a hard time starting myself this morning.  Freakin -11 here in West Lafayette at 7:00.  Even colder when I got out of class at 11.

Southwest Riverside County California.

60 degrees when I got up this morning. It was so cold I had to wear a long sleved tee shirt. Walked out to the end of the driveway and found my newspaper. The sprinklers hadn't soaked it yet. By noon the thermometer had barely risen to 75 dergees. Bracing for another tough night tonight.

If you can get your tongues off the flag pole come on out and visit.

A guy I work with was complaining about starting his Ram CTD this morning.  At 8am it was a smoldering 5* with a crisp 10mph breeze for added comfort.

It's supposed to be in the 40s next week and that's going to feel hot after this cold snap.
