Electric Folding mirrors lose their programing???

I called the local Chevy dealer because when I fold the mirrors in, the left one will come in, but the right one stays out.

If I push the button a few times and try it again, I can get the right mirror to fold in.

Then, I can't get the right mirror to fold out again.

After several tries, I go outside and pull the mirror open.

They said the mirrors may have lost its programming and would need to be reset with a scan tool and would cost $55.00 to fix.

Does this sound right, or am I being scammed.

I am thinking of just quitting using the folding option alltogether.

Anything is possible with this stuff but I don't think they "lost their programming". I don't know what computer in the vehicle controls them but if you could remove the power and reset it, it might help.

I folded my mirrors a couple of times and the whole system looked like a problem waiting to happen - so I just am really careful when pulling in and out of the garage and save the function for when it is absolutely needed.

I think the motor on the mirror is going bad, I had one replaced at the dealership on my 09 a few months back, I think the power folding mirrors going bad is a very common problem in these trucks.

Well, I don't know how by using them....what.....maybe 30 times, they are broke already! I don't use even use them once a month.

I was thinking that maybe when I take it to the car wash, the "help" pushes the mirrors in to run it through the car wash and then they pull them back out again.

I didn't know if that would cause them to go bad.

$55.00 seems like a lot to have the mirrors fixed, and there is no guarentee that they will stay fixed.

Funny thing is that on my 09, the drivers side mirror quit working after I got back from the car wash.

Both mirrors on my truck will intermittently/individually fail to work. I have found that a light tap on the offending mirror will bring it back to life. I need to crack the books on this, but my instinct tells me it might be a limit switch or reversing relay thing before a motor thing. Wife's Traverse exhibits the same behavior.

My '10 has them and I fold them in at least 2-3 x per day every day and have been lucky enough to never have a problem with it.

I pulled in to a Sonic restaurant a while back and didn't notice that the menu thing on the passenger side of my truck was too close so I ended up hitting it with my mirror. I only noticed it when the mirror slammed against the passenger side window. After I backed out of the spot I pressed the button to unfold the mirror but it didn't work. When I pressed the button to fold the mirrors, only the drivers side would fold in. I figured "well I messed that up".

I couldn't find any info that would tell me if the mirror had a dedicated motor to fold/unfold the mirror or if it was part of the motor that adjust the mirror position. So I decided it would stay like that for a while. I liked to use the folding feature when I was at work. Where people park too close and they walk in between the vehicles and sometimes they bump the mirrors.

But then the other day I took my truck through one of those automatic car washes to get a bunch of bird poop off the front fender. ALOT OF POOP !!!

When those brushes came by the passenger side mirror, they pushed it forward. Then when the brushes came back they pushed the drivers side mirror back. Up against the window. So then when I exited the wash bay I was prepared to have to get out and go fold back the pass. side mirror.

But first I pressed the button to unfold the drivers side mirror.

The drivers side unfolded and then I pressed the button to fold them in.

Well wouldn't you know it ?

The passenger side mirror folded right in with the drivers side !!! I thought it was broke !!!!

Another press to unfold the mirror and they both unfolded !!!

Oh well, really long story short, my mirror somehow fixed itself.

Maybe it needed to go all the way forward to "get back on track" or something.

I don't know.

Thanks for reading this rambling story.

It may be a sequence thing
