I have a 2003 Silverado 2500 that I bought new.

The other day, I drove to the store and when I tried to start it to go home, it acted very weird. When I turned the key, it turned over for about 1/2 second and conked right out. I tried this 4 times and it did exactly the same thing. Also, my radio would not work and I think the headlights went out.

I waited about a minute and then it started fine. As I drove home, the lights went out and on and the dash lighted up like when you first start the truck.

It ran fine for 2 or 3 days. I tried to start it in my driveway and I had the same problem. This time, however after waiting and trying again, it won't start. After leaving the ignition on for about a minute I saw the message service 4wd.

It seems that maybe the fuel injectors are not initializing and send fuel to the cylinders (just a guess) and maybe that is why it cuts right out. Also the radio does not come on. The AC fan runs. When I turn the key to start, the radio comes on briefly and then turns off.

Have you crossed off the easy stuff yet?

- How good is your battery (s)?

- How secure are the grounds?

I say check those things, because my wife's G6 did very similar things. Starter would just clunk, and the wipers would go off. Then the radio would shut off. Tow truck driver just jumped it, which I wish he wouldn't have, but I wasn't there. She was able to drive home, but couldn't have the A/C on, headlights were getting dim..... Tested the battery, sure enough it had a bad cell. New battery....all the problems went away!

One other thing. When it wouldn't start, I put on the dome light and it wouldn't come on at all. I forgot to turn it off. Later, at night I went out to get something out of the truck and noticed that the dome light was on. I said to myself I know it will start now, and it did.

Battery is maybe a year old and as I stated, it cranks strong but doesn't turn over. I tried to hold the key to start and it cranks and tries to start, turns off and then cranks and tries to start, turns off, over and over.

Which ground should I check? I will check anything I can to eliminate possibilities

I would check to make sure the ground for the battery and ECU are secure. Do you have dual batteries? If so, check the ground on that as well, I believe it runs along the firewall. What does your battery gauge say when the truck is running?

Definitely something going on with the positive and/or negative cables, or even your battery. Doesn't matter that it is only a year old, they are known to go bad for stupid reasons :( Good luck!
