My surge protector has a USB port. I use a 24 ft USB cable to charge my phone at night. There isnt an outlet on the wall next to my bed on the side I sleep on.

Yep, not enough power. Between the port from the surge protector most likely only putting out 500 mah and whatever "loss" if any from a 24ft usb cable you're going to get that msg from the phone. I want to say the S4 is probably a 1A/1000 mah or higher capable phone or whatever those numbers are supposed to be. Mine pulls 750 mah on the charger and it's 2+ years old and no where near the size/capability/power of the s4 so only logical the S4 would prefer higher power output while charging.

I did some testing tonight. The charging block is not the driving factor. I tested the charging block with the 24 ft belkin cord. Still in slow charge. I unplugged the 6ft belkin usb a to micro cord and used the oem samsung charge block, 18 ft usb extension, and oem micro adapter. Slow charge is no longer coming up.

Well Chris, since I was eligible for a upgrade. I couldn't decide if I wanted the 5s or the S4.

So I called Verizon & they are shipping me my S4, should be here next week.

Do you still like yours? All my Apple friends was demanding me to get the 5s. lol

So you quit drinking the apple kool - aid. Good for you. I like it, I dont use nearly all the features. The screen ia what I like most. Also it doesn't have auto-correct

Nope. It does learn the words you use and will bring them up above the keyboard.

Its good hardware, however the software is an absurd collaboration of american marketing.

Id suggest having custom software loaded on the device. I use Cyanogen without issues. There's also the Google Play Edition provided by Samsung. Both are lightweight versions of Android. No filler to get in the way of the functionality of the tools in your hand.

Id suggest having custom software loaded on the device. I use Cyanogen without issues. There's also the Google Play Edition provided by Samsung. Both are lightweight versions of Android. No filler to get in the way of the functionality of the tools in your hand.

I think putting a custom rom on any android device is always a great idea. Usually it runs faster and has less useless crap than what the device maker put on there.

What carrier do you use?

XDA Developers is a wealth of info. You need to download a few files and drivers first. There will bea forum section dedicated to your phone dependent on your carrier. I'll help provide links once we get that sorted.

The terms are:

Rom - (read only memory) used to reference the operating system software.

Recovery - this is what you use to load a rom or backup/recover roms

Odin - this is pc based software used to load the recovery firmware into the phone.

The steps are:

Get the files (usb drivers for pc, odin, recovery file for phone, rom)

Install USB drivers

Open odin and load recovery to phone via pc

Backup current rom with recovery

Load custom ROM with recovery

Profit

Note: you cannot send your phone to the carrier for repair with a custom rom, you'll have to Odin back to stock. I've never heard of an issue with this anyway.

Cyanogen is always good. And the Google play Edition is nice too. Both are bug free from my experience.

After that just explore the forums. I looked for stickies on rooting/whatever process your phones uses but didn't see any. If I had a Samsung device I could help out more but I've never messed with Odin or any other Samsung stuff.

It's a whole bunch of reading, some more reading, more questions to yourself if you want to/can do it yourself, and then more reading and then like 5 minutes of actual doing.

Someone else with an S4 can probably chime in and give you a more specific help but for now the second link looked like it should be a good introduction. Have fun!
