2008 GMC Sierra 1500 series, 4x4 crew cab, spark plug issue

Hello, I am a new member, I have a 2008 GMC Sierra 1500 series, 4x4 crew cab. Love the truck, but have had a continues issue with a specific spark plug. Seems every 4 to 6 months the engine starts missing/stalling, since I am a woman may not know the technical term, and I get the spark plug replaced and I am good to go for another 4-6 months, but issue has been on going since I purchased the truck which was under warenty at time of purchase. Last time I took it in they were not eager to help me and I feel I am about to get shoved to the curb with my issue. The truck also will shock you on occasion, when you touch the metal of the turck as your exiting, especially right before the spark plug goes out. Has anyone out there had this issue if so would so appreciate your help/advice. Nanalb

So this is just the same spark plug messing up? Or is it multiple? If the single plug keeps messing up, replace the plug, then swap coil packs to see if that causes the other spark plug starts to go bad.

Same plug then fix your oil burning issue. There's a TSB for it.

I bet you have cloth seats in your 2008 truck. The "shock" when exiting is caused by static electricity.

Your cloths scooting across the stock cloth seats causes this. I had to upgrade to leather seat covers in mine. I guess you could spray some "static guard" laundry spray on your seats once a month- I might help???

Well, I can tell you. I'm 41 yrs old & have been driving since 1988.

I've owned a 1960 T-Bird, 1983 Chevy Silverado, 1998 Chevy Silverado & I bought a USED 2001 GMC Sierra SLT, and It was the 1st vehicle I've ever driven with leather seats. Must have been in 2002. I traded it in on a 2004 GMC Sierra SLT (also with leather seats). Then traded that truck in on a 2009 GMC Sierra SLE with CLOTH SEATS. Bad mistake!!! I was getting shocked by static electricty every time I got in/out of that GMC- Not to mention the lint & dirt that somehow found it's way into the seats!! I swear the WORST fabric of ANY vehicle I have EVER rode in. This includes diferent past rentals & parents/friends vehicles!!

The cloth seats in my dad's '59 Ford Galaxie 500 AND my 1983 Chevy Silverado were like Cadillac seats compared to the clothe seats in my new 2009 GM truck!!! So much in fact, I traded that truck in on a new 2012 GMC Sierra SLE with LEATHER bucket seats.

yes, same spark plug and I believe they have replaced the coils packs, or at least they told me they did. I will double check to make sure. Thanks for answering my post and helping with my issue.

I agree with the seat issue, I have owned several vehicles in my life span, all cloth, and never had this issue, I think the seats collect the dust in the air as well

I agree about most vehicles with cloth seats not shocking you, and do use static spray. The odd thing is the shocking seems to get worse right before the spark plug goes bad.

Yes,

it is the same spark plug and I believe the next to last time I took it in they changed the coils or fixed them. They assured me this would fix

the issue, NOT. I agree with reports on the seats, I have always had cloth seats in all my vehicles, and I am 64 so that is a lot of

vehicles. But this is the first one that has shocked me. I do use static spray, but the strange thing is the shocking is worse right before the

spark plug goes out. The GMC Dealer where I take the truck for the spark plug issue told me to fix it "now" they would have to remove the motor

and replace something and they could not do that, so in short I am just out of luck. Was hopeing maybe someone else had experienced this and had

an easy fix for me.

TSB

Technical Service Bulletin,,,the manufacturer brings out a TSB for a condition and a recommended repair for that condition that is common

aids the tech ,,,,,

if a tech scans a code and puts it in the search engine of the electronic service manual and a its a common fault a TSB will show up

hope that helps

I had a 1998 Malibu with cloth seats. It would shock me all the time! Enough that I actually kept a spray can of static guard in the car... It would even shock me through my winter gloves! All my vehicles since then have had leather and I don't believe I have ever been shocked by any of them.

That part worries me above. I would have to call GM customer assistance (see "800"# in your owners manual). Tell them what this dealer has done, & what they are telling you they are NOT going to do now. I hope they get you a case # then find you a 2nd dealer to start over with.

Keep us updated. Good luck....
