db3812 Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 I want to know which lift is the best lift for a mild lift. I don't want a very big lift. I would like to keep as much of the factory ride as possible. Can anyone give me suggestions of which lift is best? Looking for roughly a 4 inch lift or so. Your help is appreciated!
tyhuck Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 Not sure what you are looking to accomplish as far as ride height or tire size, or even what kind of truck you have, but here is my $.02 anyway. If you are looking for a factory ride, go with a 3" body lift. They are cheaper and don't require modifying the suspension at all. IF you want more lift, add a leveling kit and either an AAL spring or a taller rear block ( I like AALs personally). ON Torsion bar trucks, a leveling kit can harshen the ride a little, but its not bad enough for most people to take them off as long as you stay around 2" of lift. Coil sprung trucks don't seem to be affected with the leveling kits. AAL springs will also stiffen the ride out back a little, but its not as bad as everyone like to claim. I have a torsion bar front end with a 2" lift, and a 2" AAL out back, and the ride feels stiffer on the front than on the rear. I ran a 3" BL and that same suspension setup on an 05 and got 35s under it easy. On the 07+ trucks, you can probably get a 33x12.50 under it with that lift. anything bigger and you might want to look at a 6".
db3812 Posted August 23, 2013 Author Posted August 23, 2013 I priced a 6 inch pro comp lift today and was shocked at price $4500 out the door. That includes 35x12.50x 18 toy mt tires. I have a 2011 ccz71. But I did like the 5 year power train that pro comp gives with it plus they have a lifetime warranty in the lift so I think that would be worth the 6 inch lift price. I want to sit higher and bigger tires. Any thoughts?
db3812 Posted August 23, 2013 Author Posted August 23, 2013 I know 6 inches isn't mild. But I may go with that once I have $4500 of course
blackout07 Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 Well I wouldn't buy Procomp and I wouldn't pay that price.
db3812 Posted August 24, 2013 Author Posted August 24, 2013 Ok what would u suggest then? Local shop installs thousands monthly on these model trucks and speak highly of the lift. What would u suggest? That price did include tires.
tyhuck Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 I know one thing you have to look at is the primary use of your rig. If you want a lifted cruiser, brand may not matter much, but if you plan on off-roading, you don't want a cheap lift with no R&D behind it because stuff will tend to break. The possible reason that that shop puts so many of those lifts on is probably because they push it pretty hard. If someone isn't educated on what lift they want, they will pretty much buy anything the shop tells them is good. They could be pushing it for many reasons ranging from cheaper dealer cost, shorter install time thus costing less in time and labor, or (depending on the reputation and ethics of the shop manager) they can even be selling the one that guarantees more repair costs. Not saying that this is the case, but its a possibility. I Would recommend BDS. I haven't ever run one on my trucks mainly because I haven't ever had the extra cash to get one, but I know that in the Jeep world they are one of the top manufacturers. That's the one Im planning on getting IF I can ever get the money saved up.
cracked_up Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 I like CST's 4" it's the best! BDS would be my second choice
db3812 Posted August 24, 2013 Author Posted August 24, 2013 Thanks for the input guys. Keep it coming please. I want as much feedback as possible because I want to make an educated decision
blackout07 Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 That price is about $1000 high with tires. Z71 said it best with his post. Procomp is decent but I've come across quite a few negative reviews over the years. Particularly when dealing with the GMT 900, I've never seen any negative feedback on BDS, Fabtech, or FTS. Of course there are other great kits out there but they tend to be on a higher price point. I currently have a BDS kit and my only complaint is that it's not high enough. If I were doing it again today, I'd go with FTS. Their 6" kit, like Fabtech, nets closer to 8" of actual lift. A Basic kit from FTS can be had for about $1300 too. Throw in install and you're under 2k for the lift if the shop isn't owned by a rapist.
