Tahoe Trans. Fluid

Anybody know about how much Dexron III a 97 Tahoe will hold? It's got the 4L60E with a 350. A friend of mine is putting one this weekend and wants to make sure he has enough on hand.

I would guess 6-7 quarts. Just buy a case and return the unused containers. The manual should tell him too if he has it handy.

It should say in your owners manual what it holds. if you are doing a filter change and just dropping the pan it will not take as much as filling the whole transmisson as you will be filling the tourqe converter also.

a whole trans takes about 5 GALLONS of fluid, whearas just dropping the pan takes about 4-5 quarts.

Owner's manual does not say. He's putting a new transmission in because the old one burnt up. 5 gallons? I was thinking about 12 quarts. Looks like he should buy 2 cases to make sure he has enough.
