Repainting chrome rear bumper

Can you repaint a chrome rear bumper?

 

I want to have my colormatched (Greystone Metallic) and wanted powdercoating but nowhere here will do it. They said that since it's not black or white or some other common color, it will be tough to match. So I'm stuck with painting.

 

I will probably have my local dealer paint it since they can match it perfectly and they have painted stuff for me in the past on my old truck for a great price.

 

Can they sand down the chrome and repaint or would I just need to get paintable rear bumpers?
